Thanks for your response Olive. I too have wondered about the children that were born several years after William Swinford's death, because I had this same death date in 1871 for him. Judging from Diane's information you included, it appears she has the same conclusion about the father of this William Swinford as I've come to. I have tried to tie two William Swinfords I have in my data together, with one that was married to Nancy Harrell, but no father and mother in my data, and another William Swinford that was the son of John Milton Swinford (my ggg-grandfather). However, I have a son Everett P. Swinford of this second William Swinford, and I have never seen Everett listed as a son of William and Nancy (Harrell) Swinford. Do you know where the Fenn's Chapel cemetery is that Diane mentions as the burial place of Deborah (Leach) Swinford? As I have said in earlier emails to you and this distro I found Deborah's marker in the Parrish Cemetery west of Lewis Creek Baptist Cemetery, but the marker now appears to be gone. Thanks so much for your assistance. Lee Swinford Frisco TX Lee, Since HARRELL is my line I have not researched much on her husband. I know his name was William H. Swinford, b. Feb 24, 1845. Cemetery Book of Shelby County, IN gives his date of death as Oct 20, 1871 but his youngest children (twins Viola & William Louis) were born in 1875. Could it have been 1876 or 1877 instead of 1871 and just misread because Nancy never remarried? By 1880 she was widowed and she and her five children were living with her father, James Ellison Harrell. From Diane <rmorri11@bellsouth.net> "I believe this William is the son of Milton and Deborah Leach Swinford. According to the 1870 census, he is 25 years old. According to the 1860 census, living with Milton and Deborah is William, 15 years old. He would be a younger brother to my ggrandmother, Jemima Swinford Andrews. He was born in Harrison County, Kentucky. I know nothing further concerning William. Deborah Leach Swinford is buried at Fenn's Chapel." William Swinford appears on 1870 census, Shelby Co, IN, Roll 357, page 128.
