Thanks for the William Hacker VS Smith Wingate Court Case transcription (of 1857). It mentions W. C. Miller & James E. Robertson and the firm of W. C. Miller & Co. I am researching the James E. Robertson family and am particularly interested in him, the ancestry of his wife Eliza Thompson & details about his daughter, Mary Jane. Does anybody know what W.C. Miller & Co. did? I have notes that indicate that Robertson was a Shelbyville contractor in the 1840s & 1850s and that after the Civil War he moved to Indianapolis where he ran a wholesale grocery and was a director in a bank & fire insurance company. He apparently also built a turnpike & a brick building in Shelbyville & tried to build a railroad at Greensburg, but was unsuccessful. James E. Robertson married Eliza Thompson on Sep. 3 1841 or 1840 in Shelbyville. Does anybody know if her mother is listed on the marriage record, or which year is correct? I have seen it listed for both years. The 1st child was born in 1841, so 1840 seems more likely.
