Although this isn't a Shelby question, I know there are helpful and knowledgeable people on this list. Here's what I've been working on for quite some time. My ancestor, John Baker Jr. remarried to Susanna Gatton in 1816 in Campbell Co., Ky. They had children. He died in 1822. In 1826, she remarried to Nicholas Connett and they went to Fayette Co., Ohio. They had children. About 1836, Nicholas died and Susan went To Wayne Co., Indiana, then later to Putnam county, then later to Illinois. She left no Will or Probate Record. According to census and tax records, John Baker and Susan had 3 sons, names unknown. I've been looking for those boys. They would be half brothers to my William Baker. I THINK I have them, but can't prove them. I need to prove they were sons of Susan Connett (or Conant). Does anyone with some knowledge of Indiana local records have any ideas of any documents in Wayne or Putnam that might show the names of parents of these three Bakers? (Book D ; Page 181) In 1840, John Dodredge is 3 census names below Susan Conant. -------------------- Lorenzo D. Baker, b. ca. 1822, wife Eliza (in Putnam in 1851 then went to Illinois, then to Gasconade Co., Missouri. Died 1870's in Gasconade) His widow is there with a married daughter in 1880. Eliza J. Showers (Sowers) married Lorenzo D. Baker on 1847-11-18 Wayne Co., IN..(Book E ; Page 198) Henry Sowers is 2 census pages before Susan Connett in 1840. Note: There is a grave in Putnam Co. for an infant named Sylvester A. Baker who died in 1851. The parents were L.D. and E.M. Baker. It appears that Lorenzo and Elizabeth named a son for Sylvester, so they were probably brothers. --------------------- Sylvester A.
