>From John Ballard: "Lives of Detectives Threatened for Enforcing The Nicholson Law" http://www.shelbycountyindiana.org/newspaper/news_simpson.htm The Nicholson Law was named after Samuel Edgar Nicholson. Nicholson was born just south of us in Elizabethtown, Indiana, in 1862. He was a Friend (graduated from Earlham College, my alma mater) and a temperance advocate. I can't find the actual law. It seems, from what I did read, that Nicholson and his supporters decided it was not logical to try and discourage drinking or teach temperance when the saloons were enticing people to drink to excess.
