This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Bi.2ADI/527.1 Message Board Post: First of all, I hope that you know that prior to 1850 census all censuses contained the name of the head of household only. All others (including the head) are listed by gender and approximate age. So, even if we find the correct family, the names of spouses and children would not be listed. I could find no one by the name of Hartley (including all variations of the name) in the 1830 census for Shelby county. In the 1840 census there is one family headed by Roger M Hartley. Sorry, I couldn't be of more help but that is what was wrong with the census in those days. Good luck. Don
This was sent to me via admin mail from rootsweb. I decided to share it with the list in case there is anyone interested. Melinda I have an announcement about the Indiana Genealogical Society's upcoming conference, and I thought it might be of interest to your INSHELBY listers, particularly because it's being held in neighboring Madison County. Would you consider posting this to the list? *********** Come to Anderson in April! The Holiday Inn in Anderson, Indiana (Exit 26 on I-69) will play host to the Indiana Genealogical Society's annual conference on Saturday, April 2, 2005. George G. Morgan, noted author and columnist for Ancestry.com, will speak at four sessions. Other sessions will focus on family photos, school records and researching Catholic ancestors. There will be various genealogy vendors and a Computer Resource Center staffed by IGS, where attendees can view demonstrations of websites, data CDs and other software. The Anderson Public Library (http://www.and.lib.in.us) will have a Research Lock-in on Friday, April 1st from 5 to 8 pm. Conference registration is only $25 for IGS members, $30 for non-members ($35 at the door). Vendor tables are just $13 for non-profits, $18 for commercial organizations, with a $1 discount before March 5, 2005. Thanks so much for the Wicker information & the burial data. Elijah Wicker was David L. Wicker's brother. I don't know who Ora or Della were. I believe that David L. Wicker had three marriages. If this is wrong, please let me know. 1) Sarah Vance c. 1825 in NC. She died August 24, 1870. 2) Permelia Bassett on October 12, 1872 in Shelby Co. 3) Celia Jane Lemons on March 31, 1880 in Shelby Co. What is bothering me is that I can't seem to locate the burial location of Permelia Wicker or Permelia (Davis) (Drake) Bassett. Perhaps she is buried with her first husband or her mother Clarissa (Viers) Davis, both of whom I can't locate. Permelia Davis married 2 times that I know of. 1) William Drake on September 20, 1835 in Shelby Co. He died c. 1842. 2) Samuel Bassett on July 27, 1845 in Shelby Co. He died in 1864 during the Civil War in GA. I am probably wrong about all of this, but I keep wondering if the 2nd Permelia married David Wicker & then they got divorced. Does anybody have access to estate records for these families? I'd like to rule out the divorce theory. Mary

The death date is the same as the cemetery burial date, they may have just written it down wrong at some time, I am sure this is the same person. There are numerous Wicker's listed, it does not show either wife, Permelia or Celia.
