We don't have birth certificates before 1882 -- and until the early 1900s, birth certificates were not routinely filed. Perhaps you will find Mary listed as an heir in one of these estates. That would prove her parentage, even if there is not a birth date listed: 00013 Booher, James L. mnr hr Booher, John gdn 1843 00013 Booher, Joseph L. mnr hr Booher, John gdn 1843 00103 Booher, Milton C. mnr hr Booher, Alpheus C. gdn 1873 00075 Booher, Rosanna dec'd Booher, John adm 1831 00075 Booher, Samuel H. dec'd Hodges, Benjamin adm 1831 ----- Original Message ----- From: "Flavia Hodges" <flavia@infionline.net> To: <INSHELBY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, March 31, 2005 11:03 PM Subject: [INSHELBY] Michael M. Thank you, Janet, so very much for the transcription of the 1840 census. Because of your meticulous attention to detail, I was able to identify several individuals who I know for sure now were members of my family -- as well as one who very well may have been. (I come from a family line [Surber] where a great many of them are deaf and your having included this information was what helped me tell for sure "who was who.") After working in offices all my life typing, I know only too well how much mind numbing, eye straining work this has been for you -- and what a generous gift to all of us. And I hope you know how much it's appreciated! I hope you (and all the Shelby-ers) have a happy and peaceful Easter season. Gratefully, Jeanne Surber
I would appreciate the family of William Smith who appeared in the 1840 census for Union Township. Does anyone out there connect to the Union Township Smith family? Thanks for the help. Wanda
