re: Roxanna NORVEL Bishop I think this should read Roxanna TOWN NORVELL Bishop. On the 1880 Census, Roxana Bishop 38Y with children Minnie 13Y, Molly 9Y & Elizabeth Bishop 7Y are listed with the family of Sylvester Town as a daughter & grandchildren. Shelby County marriages: Norville Robert Town Roxanna 03 Mar 1861 Bk: 7 p. 513 Rufus Bishop Roxcena Norvell 01 Nov 1865 Bk: 8 p:418 A Robert A. Norvell, listed as the son of James & Margaret (prob. Griffith), is listed as buried in a cemetery which no longer exists, Norvell Cemetery of Brandywine Twp. Robert A. Norvell Apr. 20, 1863 27Y, 3M, 16D Roxanna's parents were prob. Sylvester Town (c. 1821- ) & Mary Monroney (1820-1864). I don't know if this is the correct Robert Norvell, but there is a Robert Norvell with Civil War service. A Robert Norvell served with Co. D, Indiana Infantry, 33rd Regiment (Union) which was organized September 16, 1861in Indianapolis. Most of the Regiment was captured after the battle of Thompson's Station, TN on March 4-5, 1863 and exchanged May 5, 1863. I don't know which family Rufus Bishop belonged to and would be interested to learn more about the members of this family.
That's correct also, I thought a person from another state could find 9 easier than Columbus rd. A few months ago, the Shelby Co Clerk's Office was doing some routine "housecleaning" and found a book of affidavits in a cabinet (upstairs -- not in the vault). The book runs from July 1876 through Sept 1879. The book lists the names of the bride and groom AND an affiant (someone swearing to the validity of the affidavit). When the bride or groom were under age, a parental permission note was pasted to the page. Barb transcribed all the information! Listing by date (as the affidavits appear in the book): http://www.rootsweb.com/~inshelby/courthouse/marriage_records/marriages_aff_76.79.htm Alpha listing, both by groom's name and then by bride's name: http://www.rootsweb.com/~inshelby/courthouse/marriage_records/marriages_aff_76.79.htm Transcription of all consent notes/letters AND a sample of the form used for each affidavit: http://www.rootsweb.com/~inshelby/courthouse/marriage_records/marriages_aff_76.79_consents.htm

I found the Parrish Cemetery several years ago, spending most of an afternoon looking for it after finding WPA records in the Shelbyville Library. My ggg-grandmother, Deborah (Leach) Swinford, is buried there. The marker says: "Swinford, Debo (wife of J.M.)" (John Milton Swinford, my ggg-grandfather), but I could not find the marker again the last time I was there for the overgrowth of weeds and Yucca plants. I'm thinking of borrowing a weed wacker the next time I'm back in Indiana! This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Bi.2ADI/437.1.1 Message Board Post: I have information on Robert Brown, born in Laurens Co., South Carolina, who married Catherine Cotton in Hamilton Co. Ohio Before 1803, Catherine was born in Kentucky on Feb. 29, 1784, they are both buried in the Bennett Cemetery in Shelby Co., Union Twp., Rays Crossing, Indiana
The history of Samuel P. Stroup doesn't mention that the first wife of Daniel Cotterman was Catherine Kesling, daughter of Henry Kesling of Preble Co. Catherine died in Preble Co. Daniel Cotterman and family then moved to Indiana. Henry Kesling was the son of Teter Kesling, Revolutionary War Vet who moved to Warren Co., Ohio from Rockingham Co., Virginia. Teter is buried near his home in Warren Co. Henry Kesling is buried near his home in Preble Co. A large history of the Kesling family has been done and in part goes back to about 1550 in Europe.
