this is a test, if this comes through the rootsweb email phyllis please let me know thanks Janet Franklin
My guess is that she is the America Smith, dau of John, 44 VA and Nancy, 42 VA. She is listed in the 1850 Census as 11 with 9 other siblings all born Ia (which is Indiana). Blooming Grove Twp. Franklin Co. Indiana 199/199 Lines 1-12. L.R. I am sorry I do not know who her parents are. I have located her in the 1870 census as a housekeeper. She was married as America F Smith in Shelby County in 1874. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Wanda
Hi Virginia Do you still need info on Roy Derrickson, I tried to email you cause it seems my letter to roots didn't go through. But you have that block so that didn't go though either. Let me know if you still want the info, I have a copy of the census if you do. Janet Franklin
Yes, the ssdi is where I got her death date. Her mother's obit (Callie Zipf 2-2-1964) gave Shelbyville as her home. I'll do some more hunting for Roscoe. Larry
Carleen, Elder Butler most likely is Mary Polly's family. Polly Butler and Piercy were married in 1823 as we know. Piercy died 1848. The 1850 census shows a Polly Kitchel (age 60 b. NC) living with a Stone neighbor in Hanover Twp. This must be her. What do you think? I know nothing else about her. Do you know her parents? I imagine they all came to the area about the same time 1820-1822. Do you know anything about the land now Kings Island in Ohio belonging to the Kitchels at some point. I found something, but have lost it. Thanks. You may find them in state census. Try this link for Taylor Co IA, where many Shelby county folks went, and search for Smith, or an unusual first name, since you may come up with lots of Smiths. Or go to census on page and see if 1855 census is there. http://www.rootsweb.com/~iataylor/ At 09:50 PM 6/17/2005 -0400, you wrote: >Thanks Jill how about 1870 for James M. Smith b.Ky 182? I have had a Golding researcher contact me recently and has connections to the Golding family who lived in Shelby Co then in Taylor Co IA. She says Roy Derrickson, age 21 in 1900, was found living in one of her Golding family's homes in yet another state. I know one of Solomon's sisters and her family (Albert and Phoebe Foreman Derrickson) also went to Taylor from Shelby. Does anyone know how Roy connects. Is he descended from one of the other Derrickson families in Shelby Co? I had hoped to find him in the 1920 census, but the free time is up, but I did find this when I searched. Derrickson, Roy city, Tipton, Indiana b abt 1886
Hi Virginia, I found only one Roy Derrickson and that was in 1920 United States Federal Census > Indiana > Tipton > Madison > District 203 Married to Bessie W. children Hearold, Justine, Wanda, Loren. living next door were John and Sarah Derrickson if these are the correct ones let me know and I'll email you the census. My great uncle Roy Waughtel (Edward Elroy Waughtel) married an Alice Derrickson in Wayne County, Indiana in July 1905 and I so far have not been able to tie this Derrickson family in anywhere else either. I believe Alice died in childbirth or possibly related to childbirth complications as in 1906 my great uncle was in Ohio and married to someone else. I have found a Homer Waughtel in a school (?) as a small child and am assuming that my great uncle either was unable to care for the child or for other unknown reasons he was put in this school/home?? My great uncle had been in a boys reformatory prior to this so possibly they didn't feel he would be a fit parent and the child taken from him and put into this school/home? Does anyone have a like/similar incident in their Derrickson family in Indiana? The James Smith in Moral Twp was born in Bavaria. The census page is almost illegible. I saved it and will email it to you directly. Jill
No this is not the correct couple. They should have been in Moral Township as that is what I just found in the Chadwick book that James M was named the preacher of the Baptist church in Moral in 1867.
