What about John's estate record? The three boys were definitely under age 21 when John died. P ----- Original Message ----- From: "James R. Although this isn't a Shelby question, I know there are helpful and knowledgeable people on this list. Here's what I've been working on for quite some time. My ancestor, John Baker Jr. remarried to Susanna Gatton in 1816 in Campbell Co., Ky. They had children. He died in 1822. In 1826, she remarried to Nicholas Connett and they went to Fayette Co., Ohio. They had children. About 1836, Nicholas died and Susan went To Wayne Co., Indiana, then later to Putnam county, then later to Illinois. She left no Will or Probate Record. According to census and tax records, John Baker and Susan had 3 sons, names unknown. I've been looking for those boys. They would be half brothers to my William Baker. I THINK I have them, but can't prove them. I need to prove they were sons of Susan Connett (or Conant). Does anyone with some knowledge of Indiana local records have any ideas of any documents in Wayne or Putnam that might show the names of parents of these three Bakers? Information on them is listed below. Jim . . Probable sons for John and Susanna (Gatton) Baker. (All were born in Kentucky) -------------------- James M. Baker, b. ca. 1817, wife Phebe (in Putnam 1860-1870, then vanished) No children. Phoebe Doddridge married James Baker on 1843-03-23 Wayne Co., IN. (Book D ; Page 181) In 1840, John Dodredge is 3 census names below Susan Conant. -------------------- Lorenzo D. Baker, b. ca. 1822, wife Eliza (in Putnam in 1851 then went to Illinois, then to Gasconade Co., Missouri. Died 1870's in Gasconade) His widow is there with a married daughter in 1880. Eliza J. Showers (Sowers) married Lorenzo D. Baker on 1847-11-18 Wayne Co., IN..(Book E ; Page 198) Henry Sowers is 2 census pages before Susan Connett in 1840. Note: There is a grave in Putnam Co. for an infant named Sylvester A. Baker who died in 1851. The parents were L.D. and E.M. Baker. It appears that Lorenzo and Elizabeth named a son for Sylvester, so they were probably brothers. --------------------- Sylvester A. I am trying to help a BIGGS researcher with courthouse legwork. It seems that none of the patriarchs were involved in litigation or died here in Shelby Co, so I'm not finding too much. If any Kitchel, Fox or Kennedy researchers have BIGGS info, I would appreciate it. Thanks, Phyllis

I am going to have a nudge to remember what my family connection to the Hills is. I don't recall a recent post to the Shelby County Indiana site though I read every post with enormous interest since so many of my ancestors once lived there. If there is a connection it is probably that a Hill married the sibling of one of my ancestors. My present computer has no genealogy on it. When my old one's modem quit working last December I copied all my files over to the new PC but I can't open any of them. I am waiting for a techie son to visit in a couple weeks to see if he can figure out how to access the old files. There is another Linda Dunham in Washington state. Is there any possibility you got us mixed up? Till later--Linda ----- Original Message ----- From: <DtwRaver@aol.com> To: <INSHELBY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, August 01, 2005 5:31 PM Subject: Re: [INSHELBY] HILL > Hi Linda, > > I noticed your recent post regarding the Hill family of Shelby co., > Indiana. > I am descended via Isaac, Abraham, John, Ida Mae (my g.grandmother.) Hi Linda, I noticed your recent post regarding the Hill family of Shelby co., Indiana. I am descended via Isaac, Abraham, John, Ida Mae (my g.grandmother.) I have very little information on the family before John (12 JAN 1851 Bartholomew Co., IN - 1 DEC 1938 Shelby Co., IN). I'd love to perhaps exchange information with you. Would you be interested? Please let me know. Sincerely, Bruce Greene

It's definitely a blimp. In air traffic parlance the Goodyear Blimp is "Airship November-----". There are several of them you know. Jill
There were also some hot air balloons in those days. In fact, I'm trying to find some record of a man who operated such things in the mid-west around the turn of the century and earlier. They were supposedly used in the Civil War by both sides. -- Jeanne > It's definitely a blimp. In air traffic parlance the Goodyear Blimp is > "Airship November-----". Thanks for the William Hacker VS Smith Wingate Court Case transcription (of 1857). It mentions W. C. Miller & James E. Robertson and the firm of W. C. Miller & Co. I am researching the James E. Robertson family and am particularly interested in him, the ancestry of his wife Eliza Thompson & details about his daughter, Mary Jane. Does anybody know what W.C. Miller & Co. did? I have notes that indicate that Robertson was a Shelbyville contractor in the 1840s & 1850s and that after the Civil War he moved to Indianapolis where he ran a wholesale grocery and was a director in a bank & fire insurance company. He apparently also built a turnpike & a brick building in Shelbyville & tried to build a railroad at Greensburg, but was unsuccessful. James E. Robertson married Eliza Thompson on Sep. 3 1841 or 1840 in Shelbyville. Does anybody know if her mother is listed on the marriage record, or which year is correct? I have seen it listed for both years. The 1st child was born in 1841, so 1840 seems more likely.
Since Wilbur & Orville didn't fly till 1908... (Even though my kids think it, I wasn't there to see), I would suspect it was a blimp. Or (he is in my family tree) he may have had a wee bit too much to drink that day and was imagining things. No doubt a strange thing to witness at the turn of the century. George Young
Thanks for the logical critique. And I needed the laugh this morning. Thanks to migraines, I never have any alcohol -- so seeing those with a "wee bit too much to drink" is quite hilarious to those of us that are sober. ----- Original Message ----- From: <OLDHIKER50@aol.com> To: <INSHELBY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, August 01, 2005 8:46 AM Subject: Re: [INSHELBY] SALLA > > Since Wilbur & Orville didn't fly till 1908...
