    2. In a message dated 8/22/2005 10:01:04 PM Central Daylight Time, INSHELBY-D-request@rootsweb.com writes: I contacted a headstone maker here and asked him if there was any safe way to be able to read some of the headstones. He told me to take regular "blackboard chalk" and trace around the letters (or inside the letters). He told me that if white didn't work that I could use the colored chalks. That they were completely safe. Another way to read headstones is to do a tracing. I use art paper and charcoal. Lay the paper over the stone and rub the charcoal over the whole stone until it is legible. I have been able to read stones that are not legible by doing tracings. Ma

    2. Theresa and others - these are my great-grandparents: 19. THEODORE4 BAKER (SARAH ELLEN3 RICE, MICHAEL2 , JOHN1 ) was born 12 Dec 1872 in Rush County, IN, and died 19 Aug 1947 in Near Waldron, IN. He married JESSIE M. STRAHAN 16 Dec 1901. Theodore was buried 21 Aug 1947, Blue Ridge Cemetery, Liberty Twp., Shelby, IN Children of THEODORE BAKER and JESSIE STRAHAN are: i. UNKNOWN5 BAKER, Stepchild; m. RALPH BAKER MOORE. ii. EMMA BAKER. Children of Theodore(a?) and Jessie Strahm are Thelma Baker who married Ralph Waldo Moore Sr. Emma Baker always single. Ralph & Thelma had 2 children, Ralph Moore m. Carmelita Essex ==>I am oldest child of Ralph and Carmelita and Robert Moore -married several times. Where did you get the info that Grandma was a stepchild? Not heard that before-but with my family, it could be one of those "family" secrets <grin>. G-grandpa was Several years older than g-grandma (i think she was 12 or so when she was married) and he died before I was born. G-grandma died when I was in high school so I did know her. Jessie Strahm's parents were apparently divorced (haven't found that yet-and that was a secret!) and both remarried (do know those names) -so maybe that is where the step shows up? Always wondered why she married so young - they were in IL at the time (maybe step dad was a little too friendly?). I haven't documented much in this line yet - but if you have questions or information-email me. On the back it states "Heaton - cousins to Laura" ~ ~ of the pictures that I have seen of some DRYBREAD ancestors the man definitely resembles that line. These names, or at least some of them, connect eventually to my WAUGHTEL - KEITH lineage. Antoinette (Tacoma, Washington)

    1. Re: [INSHELBY] Looking for Dowty/Douty Family Information
    2. Cathy Pentola
    3. Thank you so much for your help. I have a completely empty section in my family notebook for Levicy (sp?) - a picture of a headstone would be fantastic. Hopefully it hasn't fallen apart. If you would happen to find an obit (or other little newspaper ditty) for her that would be unbelievable. Another young lady died in the family around 1900 - I only found a little ditty about the school children missing her. But, SOMETHING is better than NOTHING. I think there is a typo in the cemetery book - I think Thomas was 41 instead of 11. **If you would ever happen to come across this name - my husband's gg-grandmother - Lucy (Caywood) Dowty - is supposedly buried in that area too, but I have never been able to find anything for her - if you would happen to stumble across her in your cemetery travels - please keep me in mind. I believe she died around the mid-1850's also. My husband and I have gone to some of the out-of-the-way cemeteries around here lately for a man in Washington. I contacted a headstone maker here and asked him if there was any safe way to be able to read some of the headstones. He told me to take regular "blackboard chalk" and trace around the letters (or inside the letters). He told me that if white didn't work that I could use the colored chalks. That they were completely safe. Don't know if this is of any interest to you...but, thought I would pass it on. I try to tell as many people as possible that might have had the same problem I was having. THANK YOU SO MUCH! I really appreciate any help you can give me. 3. In the Blue Ridge Cemetery book, published 2000, the only Dowty listed in Thomas Dowty, died Nov 11, 1846 aged 11 years, 2 months and 7 days according to the reading. It could be the years were read wrong. It appears the tombstone for the daughter was not found at that time. Find an obit for that time frame is not likely but I will put it in my list to look for. I should be going to the cemetery soon, my grandparents (along with 200 + relatives) in buried there so I take my mom one a month. I will try to locate the stone and take pictures. 3. Ramona, this message from you is the only one I see coming today. Do you mean later? My most recent Hendrickson is Susan E. Hendrickson b. Aug. 15, 1845 in Shelby Co IN who m. Isaac Newton Petty Sept. 18, 1862. She died in 1919. Her parents were Thomas M. Hendrickson b. 1814 in KYand Rose Elizabeth Hatton b.1821 in Shelby Co IN. They were m. May 31, 1838. Rose d. 1852 and he later m. her younger sister Mary Susan Hatton . The women were daughters of Wiley G. Hatton and Nancy Gregory. Thomas M. Hendrickson was son of James Hendrickson Sr. b. 1779 and Elizabeth Voyles b 1784. His parents were William Hendrickson and Nancy Moore. I have many of the siblings of these ancestors so tell me the names and dates of your Hendricksons and I will see if they fit with mine. I haven't worked on genealogy for several year s and my present PC has no family history on it. I have some time consuming restoration to do after I get a new version of Family Tree Maker. --Linda Stanley Dunham in Washington state ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ramona Curtis" <prcurtis@danville.net> To: <INSHELBY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, August 20, 2005 5:24 AM Subject: Re: [INSHELBY] WILSON and HENDRICKSON family research > See my message to the list today.
