Hazzard, who won distinction Monday in the Philippines, enlisted with the Centralia Company when it became apparent we were to have war with Spain. He was soon made a corporal. Speaking at the time of his enlistment he said he had always determined if the opportunity came that he would go to the front as a soldier and he gave up what promised to be a good years business in order to take advantage of the opportunity. The row in the Centralia company and the return home of many of the members of the company led to Hazzard's appointment of the second lieutenantcy of M company and he has proved a capable officer, being with Lawton as second in command of the Washington sharpshooters and at times acting quartermaster. The Bee-Nugget congratulates Lieut. Hazzard on the distinction he has won. (11th cavalry being organized in the Philippines--officers to be-Second Lieut. Russell T.
