6-8-00 Captain Russell Hazzard, Eleventh U. S. Cavalry, accompanied by Mrs. Hazzard and their two daughters, arrived in Chehalis Tuesday evening from San Francisco and took the South Bend train for Claquato. Captain Hazzard continued on his journey to Washington yesterday and will stop again on his return trip in about three weeks. Mrs. Hazzard will remain at Claquato as the guest of Mr. And Mrs. Wm. Hazzard. 6-16-00 Captain Russell Hazzard waited over and witnessed the high school commencement Thursday night. Friday he left for Washington. Captain Hazzard says the Philippines offer a splendid field for investment and money making in one way and another; that the islands are universally rich and that they should be retained by the United States. 7-6-00 Captain Russell Hazzard arrived home yesterday from Washington. It is said he will leave the 15th to return to the orient, his regiment in the Philippines having been ordered to China. 7-13-00 Captain Russell Hazzard and family left Tuesday for California. Captain Hazzard will sail the 15th direct for Chefoo, China, where he is to have a position on the staff of General Chaffee, the Cuban campaigner, who is to command the American forces in China. Lieutenant Morton Hazzard has temporary command of Captain Hazzard's troops in the Eleventh cavalry in the Philippines. The friends of the boys will wish them well in their new field of endeavor. Chehalis Bee Nugget December 21, 1900 The Eleventh Cavalry has been ordered to sail from Manila for San Francisco on the 15 of January to be mustered out. This is the regiment to which Captain Russell Hazzard and Lieut. Morton Hazzard belong. Captain Hazzard was in China some months on the staff of Gen. Chaffee but is now with his troop. (Same paper . . . March 29, 1901) Sgt. Ernest Parker of the 11th Cavalry is at home after nearly three years spent in the service of the government. Sgt. Parker enlisted in the 1st Washington Regiment and when that organization was sent home, joined the 11th Cav. And was recently mustered out with the regiment at San Francisco. He says Capt. Russell Hazzard is to be made a major in a cavalry regiment of Filipinos that is being organized and that Capt. Morton (O. P. M.) Hazzard will be a captain in the same regiment. Sgt. Parker is visiting his uncle, W. F. Parker, on the Newaukum*, at present. *Newaukum is a local river, which has several branches in the area south and southeast of Chehalis, and southwest of Chehalis.
