Hi all! Great idea! My Scott County family has the following families: Lorenzo Dow and Mary Guyn Montgomery Her father and uncle, Gabriel and Garrett Guyn The Halls and Hennings of Ireland who came from County Down in the 1830s and ended up in Scott CO. My great-grandfather, John Richardson (who married Rachel Hall) was in the Army of the Ohio and marched with Sherman. (No wonder no one ever talked about his service!) All of these folks' descendants can be seen on my website if anyone has an interest. (http://www.acun.com/dentons) There are also many picture of some of them as well as general sorts of photos of Early Scott CO, IN. I'd be most pleased to share anything I can with anyone. Thanks and blessings! Sue Sue Montgomery-Cook Denton Family Genealogy: http://www.acun.com/dentons Admiral Jeremiah Denton's TRANSFORM Program: http://www.nff.org
Listmembers: Since last Thursday a number of persons have signed up for our new website. We are coming along really great, we have family trees, photos, queries, burials, history, some wills and various other Kentuckiana related items entered. We are trying to build the site to how we want it. Thanks to several of the first subscribers such as Sue Carpenter,Gordon Durnil,Sharon Byerly, and Jane Slaughter we are establishing an informative page to go for Kentuckiana research. The only thing is because we were unable to gain a Genconnect page with Rootsweb for Kentuckiana we have had to utilize another avenue at the MyFamily.com websites. This has preset categories but we are altering them for our usage in the following manner: NEWS: for any comments or introductions or great research websites HISTORY:for cemeteries, burials, marriages, bios or historical accounts REVIEWS: for census records ,deeds and bible records FILE CABINET: For any other posts such as queries, wills, manumission papers. Making sure to precede the entry with what it is and what county. PHOTOS:We have many photos entered and we are creating a category for unidentified photos so maybe you might know someone. We are trying to alter the categories to use for our purpose much as a Genconnect page.To access this site you must be sent an invitation that includes a password and login name. The only problem we are having is that if you already have a site registered with MyFamily.com then you will need to log into that one and go to the link for Universal Login in order to set it up for the same password and login name for both sites. We would really love to have everyone at least visit the site and then make up your mind. We even have an instant messenger for this so we can communicate while working on the page. In order to visit the site or sign up please send me your name and I will send the invite. And if you already have a site there, please follow the instructions above after receiving the invite. Debbie
Listmembers: It appears we have fallen into the ole Summer Time slump on the mailing lists. So, to get some activity lets have a really great roll call. Please include in the subject line: Surname,Location and date if you can. Please try to answer any queries that you can. Good Luck in the digging and finding!! Debbie
Hello Listmembers: My name is Debbie and I am the listowner of another mailing list and have already received the permission of your list owner to post this. The other mailing list, also hosted by Rootsweb is the Kentuckiana-L list. It is a list for the research of persons relating to southern IN and northern KY. The actual topic for the list is: Topic: anyone with a genealogical, historical, or cultural interest in the Indiana counties of Clark, Crawford, Dubois, Floyd, Harrison, Orange, Perry, Scott and Washington and the Kentucky counties of Breckinridge, Hardin, Jefferson and Meade. Any discussions having to do with the families in this area, including how they lived, worked, are welcome. I am announcing this on this list as it is only advertised on the KY mailing lists for Rootsweb and I feel there are a number of researchers in the IN area who may also benefit from it and would otherwise not know of its existence. If you are interested in subscribing to this list please send mail to [email protected] with only the word subscribe in the body of the message. Thanks so very much for your time and I am hoping to help some people with this news. Debbie Jennings Kentuckiana mail list owner

Hi List I'm planning a trip to Scott Co. and am looking for any suggestions for "must visit" places - other than the normal Court House, Library and Cemeteries. Are there any Genealogy Societies in Scottsburg ? I'm looking for the Spangler and related families. Thanks Dick [email protected]
-0500 From: Glenn Cody <[email protected]> I am in possession of photographs from the turn of the century 1900 of Charles Baker and his family in Missouri. There are no longer any living relatives and I know that he originally came from your county. He was born in 1870. If you know of anybody who might be interested in receiving them, please let me know.
Interested in corresponding with anyone researching the SCIFRES (or any spelling variation) family in either Hardin County, Kentucky, or into southern Indiana. I'm principally trying to find WHICH George SCIFRES married Elizabeth LENTZ circa 1873 and had 3 children known to me - Frank, Susan and James Alfred. Frank and Susan lived and later died in Jackson County, Indiana. Gene Whitley [email protected]
I'm interested in corresponding with others researching this BERRY family. William and Hannah married in 1793 in Faquier County, Virginia and had the following children, known to me - John (might have gone on to Indiana since there is a John BERRY listed in the 1860 Census for Scott County, Indiana. Catherine Sarah Abraham Seymour Isaac Andrew. I have extensive information about Seymour and his descendants as I descend from him. He married Kesiah DURBIN and is buried in Jackson County, Indiana, but had lived in Scott County, Indiana for many years. This is why I suspect that the John BERRY, born in VA. who shows up in the 1860 Census is probably his brother. Gene Whitley [email protected]
Does anyone know where I can find township maps for Scott and Jefferson Counties? I just had a chance to use www.glorecords.blm.gov/search/search.asp and found patents for many of my husband's ancestors in those two counties. Now I want to plot it out, see who lived next to who to make the picture clearer. Thanks for any and all help. Pat, Washington state
Ginger White has finished transcribing the 1860 Scott Co., IN census and it is available on-line at the usgenweb archives for Scott Co. I will be adding a link to the census from the Scott Co. INGenWeb page shortly. ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/census/in/scott/1860/ So, while we are on the topic of the census, please make a copy of your 2000 census form and file it with your family history and/or other important papers. That way, your descendants won't have to wait for what seems like a gazillion years for the 2000 census data to be released for your family. Pat Mount
I would like to know if the "Hoosier Journal" is still being published? If so, could I have an address to order and the cost? Thank you, Jean

Hi all! My second cousin, Abbie Montgomery Current, has sent me several old pictures of the Montgomery family of Scott CO, IN. I've placed them on my website on a separate page from the genealogy of my Montgomery family. (url is below) There are a few group pictures in which not everyone is identified, so if you can help there it would be great. I'm always happy to share whatever I can with everyone. My heart almost stopped when I opened the package of photos yesterday. She also sent one of my great-grandmother, Mary Guynn Montgomery (born 1826), wife of Lorenzo Dow Montgomery (born 1823). If any of you are from this family, I'd love to hear from you. My other Scott CO, IN names include Hall, Henning and Richardson. Blessings! Hi! I just recently discovered that my great-great grandmother's maiden name was Hoagland/Hougland/HOGLIN. She was Mary Hougland who married Gabriel Guyn in 1823 in Fayette CO, KY. Their daughter Mary Guyn married Lorenzo Dow Montgomery in 1843 in Woodford CO, KY. The entire family of Montgomery and Guyn and Garrett moved to the vicinity of Scott CO, IN where they lived and died. I'm now wondering if Mary Hougland's family didn't also move. Do you have any information about the Hougland family that might include Mary? The Guyn name has also been spelled Gwin and Quinn. The family from Lorenzo Dow and Mary Montgomery down of Indiana can be seen at my site, http://www.acun.com/dentons on 'My Montgomerys' page. Much of the family of all the above names is still in southern Indiana and Marion CO, IN. Thanks so much!
