    1. [INSCOTT] GEORGE W. BURNETT BORN 1862, IN
    2. Hello List, I am seeking the parents and siblings of GEORGE W. BURNETT, born in Indiana, November 15, 1862. I have no idea the county. That was all I could find on census, death certificate, etc. On a tape, made when she was very old, his wife Mary, related this story told to her by GEORGE. George's mother was killed in an accident or died suddenly, when he was an infant. There were other children, don't know ages or how many. George was adopted by Shoemaker/Shumaker?Shoebaker??? He lived with them until the courthouse burned. It destroyed the adoption records. I don't know his age at the time this occurred. He was in Sumner County, Kansas on April 14, 1900. On that day he married Mary M. Bell. George said he couldn't have left if the records were still available for his adoption. Reason unknown. When he left Indiana, he took back his birth name BURNETT, and continued to use it until his death. This is a brick wall. I would really appreciate any help or advise you could provide. If you have any information, you may Email me at [email protected] Thank you in advance for your help. Respectfully yours, Jan

    3. The GenConnect server is down for maintenance. The NOC staff has built a new RAID and is in the process of backing everything up to the new raid. When this is completed they will put the server back online. Hopefully this will solve the problems they've been having with this server recently. No word on exactly when the server will be back online. In plain English, this means that the "Boards" - Query, Obit, Will,Deed, Pention and Bible will NOT work! 3. Steve & Jeannie Carlisle <[email protected]> report that the Preservation Alliance is setting up a meeting on Wednesday, January 31, 2001, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. (lunch provided free by Jeeves & Company) at Jeeves & Company for ANYONE interested in Pigeon Roost cemetery and historical site. <NOTE from Lois: See my webpage at http://www.rootsweb.com/~incccpc/pigeonroostcem.html for more info about this site.> Jeeves and Company is a Scottsburg restaurant; the owners are VERY interested in saving historical buildings and etc. in Scott County). The restaurant is on the courthouse square (west side) in Scottsburg, on South Main street. This is to be a brainstorming session to see what, IF anything, should or could be changed at Pigeon Roost. There will be some attendees from Indy. There has been a lot of vandalism in the past at Pigeon Roost. Master Gardeners have been trying to clean up and make the area prettier. There has been talk about trying to acquire more land so the area will be seen from the highway, hoping to help with vandals. Please tell anyone you would think might be interested in this historical site. Anyone having information about descendants of Pigeon Roost pioneers, please contact them, so they may have the chance to attend. > Jeannie Noe Carlisle > IN Historical Society County Historian for Scott > http://www.genroots.com/in/scottin/ > http://www.genroots.com/in/washingtonin/ > > Steve Carlisle > http://www.genroots.com/in/clarkin/ > http://www.genroots.com/in/jeffersonin/

    1. [INSCOTT] Indiana Archives
    2. I'm sending this to all the Indiana Mailing lists to which I subscribe, so please forgive any duplicate messages. I was wondering what people's experiences had been with the Indiana Archives. Here's my story: On June 28, 2000, I called the Indiana Archives and was given their e-mail address for which to send my request. I hadn't heard anything, not even a confirmation that they had received my request (yes, I double-checked the e-mail address and it was the same as on their web page), so on September 9, 2000, I wrote back asking if they could give me an estimate of how much longer it would take -- no pressure -- just a simple question. Again, no response. Then, on October 25, 2000, I e-mailed them asking if it would help if I sent money first -- still no response. Does anyone know if they are so swarmed with requests that they don't even have time to send a form letter stating that they've received my e-mail(s)? What are people's experience with the Indiana Archives? How long does it usually take to hear from them? I've only had one other place take longer -- six months, in another state. Yes, I realize many of these people are volunteers. I'm just trying to find out if I should expect to hear from them before 2001. Thanks for any help. Valerie Williams

    1. [INSCOTT] Cook's Park and Ethel Traylor
    2. paul traylor
    3. Thanks to Chris, Gilbert, Annette and others for helping to identify Cook's Park found in an old photo I have. Chris, the post card of the "Casino at Cooks Park" is the same buliding in my photo except that the lights are not apparent. I suppose what I thought was a lake was actually Pegion Creek. Now I need to indentify the young lady in the photo. Her name is written as Ethel Traylor and information on the back of the photo says she is 17 and it is dated as 1918. My family line of Traylors are from around Evansville and Indianapolis. No one in my family can identify who Ethel Traylor is or how she fits into our line. Some of my folks are in their 90s. I am sending this note to all the Indiana lists that I subscribe to in an attempt to find a connection. If you receive more then one copy of this communique please disregard all except one. Again, thanks to all those that have helped, Paul Traylor Milwaukee Wisconsin [email protected]

I contacted the Indiana Archives on June 28, 2000 requesting naturalization records and then again in August asking if they could give me an estimate on how long it would be. Still I heard nothing. Then I e-mailed them again a few days ago asking if it would help if I sent money. Still no response. Has anyone had experience dealing with the Indiana Archives? Can you tell me whether or not this is a normal amount of time to wait for a response? Valerie Williams [email protected]

    3. Listmembers: I almost forgot.. regarding this current ROLL CALL, I know I advised for you to answer as many as possible that you can. But, let's please refrain from answering a post, to only say: "I don't know anything on this line" or "Sorry not my line" It is most disheartening to see an answer to your query in the subject lines, only to find out that person has nothing. Not a possible, just nothing. Answer as many as you possibly can, THAT YOU HAVE INFO ON.
