I was also a volunteer at the time the naturalization books disappeared. They were at first taken by a group that said they were transcribing them, I saw a letter from a lady in that group that said she was doing the ones for Ripley when the state took them from her. Most of the people who volunteered at the archives never even knew they were missing till we had a query and couldn't find the books. Lori is correct about saying the state denies they have them. Sad for the archives that the state and the group (don't even recall their name) took the books and what a loss for the archives. I do recall someone saying one of our members did give the group permission to take them. But I sure don't recall it every being mentioned in a RCHS quarterly meeting.
