Land records may tell where the buyer came from. I've found many early land records that have the county of residence other than Ripley County listed. Some people buy land before moving to the area and that is why the Deed will list this fact. Another thing to look for is who witnessed the deed. This might be a good clue to follow. Very old deeds list name of owners of land that are joined to the particular land being bought/sold. Just a few good points to look at. Donnie in Indiana
