He was the third child of a family of twelve children, nine of whom survive him, five brothers and four sisters. He was married to Rachel J. Stuart December 16, 1873. To them twelve children were born. The mother and three children preceded him in death. Mrs. Tinder died August 31, 1906. The surviving children are Mrs. Pearl Shelton of Bridgeport, Ernest Tinder of Danville, Mrs. Ruth Woodworth of Peoria, Ill., Albert Tinder and Mrs. Bernice Comer of Indianapolis, Mrs. Erie Huddleston of Lawrence, Kan., Mrs. Edith Cargetter, Orpheus, and Miss Bessie Tinder of Detroit, Mich. Mr. Tinder spent almost his entire life in Hendricks county. In 1907 he moved to Indianapolis, where he lived for three years, and where he and Miss Belle Taylor were married in June, 1909. In December, 1909, he moved to Ripley county, where he died. He united with the Missionary Baptist church in June, 1911! . After a short illness he died January 28, 1919, aged 71 years, 3 months and 1 day.
