Balthasar Merkel is my ancestor who came to the USA. One of his children, Casper Merkel, married Catherine Weisenbach in Ripley County, Indiana. There are remaining descendants of Balthasar's brother in Rotenfels, Germany today. If this is any help, let me know, I have more information on Balthasar's line.
