Could it be 1866? Dorathea Haase Struckman listed in the 1900s that she immigrated in 1866. I think one of those censuses as a widow she was actually listed as Stoneman. Dora was married to my great grandpa Frederick in 1867 in Ripley Co. and later references in censuses implies she was born about 1848 but in Hanover. Was the Haase name ever mispelled in the 1870 census? I have not been able to locate Conrad Haase in 1870. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Rutledge living in Jefferson county, Indiana. Then in the 1830 census there is a peter Rutledge in Jefferson County, Indiana. In 1840 census, ther are 2 Rutledges that purchased land in Ripley county and that was Jacob Rutledge on 20 Feb 1836 and Peter Rutledge on 14 May 1836. So I presume the J. Rutledge in 1820 is Jacob. Im sorry I cant be more Specitic but it had to be one of these 2 I would say. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. IF anyone on this list knows of a Jane that married a BUchanan and lived in RIpley with 2 sons as a widow. Please let me know. I dont know her maiden name, but she was there from abt 1823 to 1858. Her sons were John A Buchanan and Cyrus F. Buchanan. She was a widow on the census. Maybe her spouse got killed in a war. SHe was born about 1799 in PA. Cyrus wa born 1828, John I am not sure of. Cyrus and Jane were born in PA. My thinking is that she came as a widow to Ripley Co. upon the death of her husband, most likely meaning that she had family there. Rose Adams

My husband is a great grandson of Valentine Hartman who would have been William Gutzwiller's uncle. Most of the detailed info I have is on Valentine's family but I do have at least names and some dates on the rest of the families. To start with William's family - he was the son of Elizabeth Hartman & Martin Gutzwiller. His other siblings were Rose b abt 1876, Clara b abt 1878, Josie, Henry b abt 1884 & Frank b abt 1886. I have William b abt 1893. Elizabeth's parents were Conrad Hartman & Clara Hartig. They arrived in NY Sept 13, 1853 from Havre, Germany on the ship Goodwin with daughter Barbara age 7 & Valentine age 2. The rest of the children (Nicholas, Elizabeth, John & Joseph) were born in Indiana. Martin's great grandfather John Gutzwiller arrived from Bazil, Switzerland to Florida then to New Alsace Indiana on horseback in 1837. I don't know what his wife's name was but one of their children was John Jr and he married Helena Winters. Their children were John, Jacob, Joseph, Martin, Elizabeth & Rose(married to Valentine). I would love to fill in any info on William's part of the family and exchange any other information on the other parts of the family. What part are you connected to? You may have been in contact with my Aunt Joan by phone or email as well. I know she has gotten info from other people. I was doing research until I got pregnant and had my son (another to add to the tree). I had been trying to clear up inconsistancy's as well as trying to track back to Germany and Switzerland. Any luck there? I hope to get back to it now that he is getting more mobile. Let me know what info you may be looking for and maybe we can compare trees to see what each of us has. The FamilySearch site lists will/probate records for Ripley Co., IN, but none of the film appears to be specifically an index. Does anyone know if there is an index available for these records? Is each roll of film indexed? Or is it necessary to get all the film that comes close to a suspected death date and search page by page in the hope of finding a desired record. FamilySearch lists Will records for 1896-1922, Probate order books 1818-1918, and Complete probate books from 1834-1917, with no comment about an index either as a separate film number or as a part of each individual reel. My interest is in probate records for Allen Burton and/or his wife, Nancy Burton. I did not find them on the 1860 census so I assume they died sometime between 1850 and 1860. Gwen Boucher
