Hi- Just saw your e-mail. Your Homer was my grandmothers brother but I know very little about the family but I do know that my grandmother, Julia Edmona Reynolds was the daughter of George W. Reynolds and Edna Gibson. I could look it up for you in the census if you dont have it. Im pretty sure that he was born in Kentucky, though. Grandma wrote on the back of this photo: "Friends of our family back when I was quite young, 5 yrs old." This would make the photo taken about 1913. Barb, Thank you so much for the information. I'll call both resources, but it seems that a trip to Ripley County would definitely be worthwhile. I was there many years ago and found everyone to be quite helpful. I appreciate your help. Jan _________________________________________________________________ Suspicious message? Hi- I know about the historical society. They have obituaries and old newspapers and death records before 1908. They will also have a folder and file on the Miller name which is very helpful. Death certificates after 1908 are kept at the Ripley health dept. The historical society may also have deeds there also. I beleive they have deed books for each year of Ripley county. Their number is 812- 689- 3032. The health dept will look up a death cerificate for you also if they died in Ripley county. Their number is 812-689-0506. Hope this helps and good luck in your research. Can anyone tell me what records may be available at the Ripley County Courthouse or Historical society regarding the 1870's? According to the Violet Toph records on the web, JOHN MILLER of Shelby Township married HANNAH HILL (sometimes seen spelled as HELL) on 14 July, 1876. In the 1880 census Hannah Miller is widowed and living with her parents and siblings in Ripley County. I want to find out when / why John died and confirm that he is my great-grandfather's brother, either from a marriage license or death notice. I also want to trace the ownership (forward and backward for at least 10 years) of a farm that John Miller Sr. deeded to two of his children (Peter and Matthias) between 1878 and 1880. I have the legal description ( NE 1/4 of NW 1/4 Sec 34, Twnsp 6, Range 10E) Is it possible to search the records by parcel? I'm willing to make the trip to Indiana if the records are available.
