He is not listed, but his wife Jenny McCoy McCabe is. Several years passed between the deaths and Squire died in OK. Can anyone verify his burial here? His obit was in the Versailles paper. He died in 1912. He was in the OK Cherokee Land Run of 1893 and stacked a claim on which he died. Any help greatly appreciated. I am looking for the 1870 census data for Christopher Hoffman and his wife Mary (Duree). In 1860 census Christopher was in Ripley County Shelby Township, and in 1880 census family was in Jennings County Bigger Township. Thanks. It is likely that Elizabeth is related to the Batesville Peetz family, but no one has been able to bridge the gap just yet. Steamboat Landing was in Ripley County, but it is unclear what happened to it. It was on Laughery Creek about a mile or so west of where it crosses with State Road 229. There is no way a steamboat could have came through Laughery Creek (at least I don't think so), which adds to the mystery. I've read elsewhere that Steamboat Landing was just another name for Ballstown. A farmer who owns land adjacent to the area showed me where it was, and he said he had always heard that there was a big fire that destroyed the small town. We didn't cross the creek because the water was too high that day, but he said there were still remnants of house foundations out in the woods. Good luck on your search. I'll post something here if I find anything related to either individuals. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have an obit. written by my ggg-grandparents that states James Jones was murdered by a Thomas Hutson about 1830 at a town hall meeting or some public meeting. This has been a brick wall for me as I have traveled all around that area & can find no record of it. (Before newspapers) However, I did find in the Jefferson Co., IN Courthouse records where they argued over some crop sharing. Let me know, if you can relate to this. My ggg-grandmothers name was Susanah Cowan. Her father was James Jones who was married to (Katy) Williams. Susannah was only 2 yrs old when this took place. The exact copy you included with your message is from the Ripley County History book, Vol 1 and it doesn't give any credits to the subbmission.(and you may already know that.) Another avenue may be to contact a Ruth Dorrell or Owen Menchhofer, to see if they have any information (Florence Thackery m James Dorrell--which would be their connection). There is a book on the Thackery family in the Historical Archives at Versailles, IN written by a Dean J. Thackery whose address was 121 Breakellia St, San Diego, CA 92129. I didn't check dates--or at least write them down so don't know how accurate that information is now. I don't remember any pictures in it. If I come across any other info, will let you know. I don't know all of the grandchildren. They had a son, John, who was born in 1865. I have no information about who he married, but the name Schreiner looks familiar, possibly from funeral cards my grandmother had collected. I will check with some of my other relatives about Wm. Wuest. Some of my older relatives remember other relatives I never met. How are you related or who are you searching on behalf of? I also found a couple of other people who have have information about John and Mary Wuest. We are corresponding directly by email.
