Hi Kathy, Notice you have the name Gibbs in your surnames. Gibbs is pretty popular in KY and some came from Indiana. My ancestors ended up in KY and came from Ripley, Dearborn, Switzerland counties in Indiana. There is a fellow and his wife in Hancock County, KY that run the genealogy archives there. Might try contacting him with your questions. His email is: [email protected] (Hancock Archives) Good luck! Regards - L. I am one of several people trying to establish the descendants of Thomas Burns (James H, Jacob C, etc) c1840s in Ripley. I, and I know others, have written the Society for research. We all believed that Thomas and his wife Catherine had died in Ripley Co. However, I have discovered that he moved to Lee Co, Ia, in 1844. His daughter Almira married James Picket and they subsequently all moved together. However, Thomas' wife at that time was Phebe not Catherine. It may well be that Catherine did die in Ripley and Thomas married Phebe but we cannot find that marriage. Thomas' widow Phebe and James Picket's widow Almira both moved back to Ripley by the 1860 census (Almira's children are living with Phebe but she is living in a hotel). Almira remarried about a month after the 1860 census. All that said, I would be interested in anything the Society might have on Phebe Burns. She shows on the 1860 census as owning property but I cannot find a will or probate record on her. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
