In the 18th century, there were 3 brothers in Ansterdam, Netherlands. Harmen, Hartweg and Hendrik Borgstede. The 3 of them married shortly before 1761 in Amsterdam. Since Hendrik is translated into Henry, this might be your Henry. In the papers I read that they came from Bergen in Germany. Does this match your data?

He was the son of GEORGE AND MARGARITE ANN (DILKS). He was in Tama Co, Iowa 25 Feb 1872 when he married CATHERINE "KATIE" ROBINSON. They had one child that I know of, but do now know the name or sex of the child. Eugene married REBECCA JANE BALES 19 Feb 1880 in Warren County, Iowa. They had one son, JAMES E. RICHMOND b. 1881 Warren County, d 1948 Warren County. The second family is all buried in the IOOF Cemetery in Milo, Warren County, Iowa. I am mostly interested in the first family of EUGENE RICHMOND and CATHERINE "KATIE" ROBINSON RICHMOND. I purchased an old photo album here in Sheboygan, WI and their pictures are in them. I feel they belong with the family. Pictures were taken between 1873 - 1880? in Toledo, Iowa. kims715@aol.com

    2. Several of my family members were born in Ripley Co, IN during the 1840s and 1850s. I just received info stating that one of them was born in Greesberg, IN. I can't find a Greesberg. Has anyone heard of a Greesberg? Thanks, Sandi

    1. Re: [INRipley] Jefferson Proving Ground
    2. Gail - It looks like your ancestor had land that was in very close proximity to that owned by Henry Ditch and Jacob Overturf. Those are surnames that dealt with my family of John McCullough and his several sons that came into the Ripley/Jefferson County areas from Montgomery County KY. David McCullough, son of John, in fact, bought, I believe 160 acres of land in November 1816, when Indiana was still a territory. Did your ancestor migrate to Indiana from Montgomery County KY? Alan McCullough

A lot of that area may still be restricted due to unexploded munitions. You might try contacting Big Oaks Conservation Society and ask them this question. bocs-collier@hotmail.com Lori

    2. Lori, I would also like to 'THANK YOU' for all your time & energy put into this project. I was just sick when someone walked off with so many of those papers a few years back. That was mean. Did you know that the Ft. Wayne Library also has a copy of the Toph papers? I would love to go up there & copy them & bring them to Ripley Co. someday. I have a copy of the original marriage records if that would help anyone....they are hard to read though unless you would want me to transcribe them. I am getting ready to go buy a home in Florida so let me know. I had 3 generations of Cowans in that area. God bless....Carolyn Cowan Oberle from Greenfield IN

Nice to know my work is appreciated! > I was just sick when someone walked off with so many of those > papers a few years back. That was mean. Did you know that the Ft. Wayne > Library also has a copy of the Toph papers? I would love to go up there & copy > them & bring them to Ripley Co. someday. Actually, RCHS closed a long time back, and donated the Toph Papers to Hanover College. Copies were made there, and given to Osgood library, and Ft. Wayne library... then the Society came back into being in the 70s, I believe, and asked Hanover to give back the papers. RCHS has the originals, so getting the copies from Ft Wayne would be a waste of your time, but it is a nice thought on your part. :-) > I have a copy of the original marriage > records if that would help anyone....they are hard to read though unless you > would want me to transcribe them. Are these the records that V. Toph created? I think I have most of them online too....if I don't, and you have copies of her records, and want to extract them into a spreadsheet for me, I would be delighted to put them online. With you listed as the submitter naturally! > I am getting ready to go buy a home in > Florida so let me know. I had 3 generations of Cowans in that area.
