If I'm reading your message correctly - the Congressional Township Maps would be the same township name even if a county changed boundaries or was newly formed over the years, which many did. Would certainly make a difference for very early ancestors! In the photocopy you receive from the library - is there enough area covered to pinpoint the township location as it relates to surrounding counties for instance? Thanks for the info - L. Livers
Hi L., > I went to the Ripley Co. site and couldn't find any general information on > history or formation of Ripley County. Probably just missed it somewhere. > Where would I find that on your site? You'll have to go to the Ripley County Historical Society website, and the graphic at the top left has a bit on the formation of Ripley County. There are also other links to various things at the RCHS archives.... my Ripley County Genealogical Data webpages are my personal RCHS pages. http://seidata.com/~rchslib/ Lori
Thanks Alan. As there are township maps on line for the other counties, perhaps someone will add one for Ripley. In the meantime, I will follow your suggestion,. Marilyn

Marilynn - I had the same problem. I contacted the Indiana State Library in Indianapolis. They have an Atlas with all of the Congressional Township Maps arranged by county. I think they charge something like $2.00 a map and they will mail it to you. The Congressional Townships are different from the political townships. The Congressional Township maps are the ones to be used to see where the land plots were that the pioneers settled on. These townships NEVER change - it doesn't matter WHAT county they are in. I use these maps to track the land purchases my family members and their friends made in the early 1800s. Congress created these townships after the War of 1812 and they've been the same ever since. More info on the townships can be found at the Government Land Officer web site at: http://www.glorecords.blm.gov. In the meantime, call the Indiana State Library and explain what you want. They'll photocopy the maps from the Atlas and mail them to you. An incredibly good bargain :-) Alan McCullough
Thank you..... Marilyn

I find one for Dearborn, Ohio and Switzerland but no Ripley. I want to know the name of the township that is in the southeast corner of the state that abuts Dearborn, Ohio and Switzerland Counties. It would abut the area where Ceasars Creek is located in Dearborn Co. Can anyone help? Thanks. Marilyn

Thanks. I do know Lewis Blaisdell was buried in Moscow, Idaho and died in 1947. Headstone reads: Lewis Blaisdell, 1870-1947. There are no other family members buried in that area that I can find. A very nice cemetery and "active" (?) today. I have been unable to locate when/where May (Mae) died and/or was buried. I have yet to find out May's maiden name. I can only assume she was originally from Michigan but with people moving so often in search of work nothing is for certain. I have sent for Lewis's death certificate which I hope will provide needed info."Thanks" again.
