Ellie: Jesse, Sr and Hannah Hadley Johnson had about ten children by my count; there may have been others. Jesse, Jr. and Elizabeth Chamness Johnson had twelve children by my count; there may have been more. Eli and Mary Cook Johnson had eleven--also by my count; there may have been others. Their father, John Johnston--note: spelled with a "t" in it (which the next generation dropped) married Elizabeth Elliston. I show them with only three children: Jesse Sr., Ruben and Joshua. (I'm sure there were others...) They resided in Orange County, VA. I do not have dates of birth, death, or much information about John/Elizabeth's parents. Since Jesse, Sr. was born in 1745 in Pennsylvania, my Johnsons must have migrated first to Virginia, then North Carolina before coming to Randolph County, Indiana. John's father was born in Blissfield Parish, Ireland in 1688 so that he may have been the ancestor who left Ireland for the Americas. (I'm not certain which one left Scotland for Ireland when the Johnston's were driven out of the Scottish border lowlands where they were "rievers.) His father, Edward, was also born in Blissfield Parish but I have no other information about him. Nowhere do I show an Ellen, but she could well have been the child of one of Jesse or Eli's children. At least Ellen is not in my direct Johnson line. I think there are must more Johns(t)on/es than Smiths or Jones on this earth... If I can be of further assistance, please let me hear from you.
