In the year 1867, he was married to Martha Coleman. To this union were born seven children, two dying in infancy and one daughter proceeded him just a few hours. His wife died in 1879, leaving him the whole care of their five little children, and he cared for them as best he could. In 1863, he volunteered in Co. C, 5th Ind. Cal., under Capt. E O. Elliot. He had at the time three brothers in the service, all of whom gave their lives for their country. He endured many hardships, but remained on duty until the close of the war, when he was honorably discharged. The deceased leaves to mourn his sad departure three sons, one daughter, three grand-children, three sisters, two brothers and a host of friends and relatives.
