    1. [INRANDOL] PARKS, MULLEN, WELLS, CORTNER from Indiana
    2. Rita Elkins
    3. Donna, My great aunt Sylvia MULLEN (Mrs. Irwin MORRIS, Gas City IN), now deceased, wrote some facts down at the age of 102, including this: (Children of) "Rev. Frank Mullen - Lydia: Courtney Nettie Elmer" And I also found more in unattributed notes, to wit: "William F. Mullen's children were: 1. Martha Melvina Mullen born July 28, 1862 married _______Wells 2. Margaret Mullen born April 2, 1866 died before April 21, 1921 3. Sarah E. Mullen born Sept 18, 1867 married ________Davis then married _______Campbell 4. Melvin Mullen born Dec 1, 1872 5. William Mullen born July 18, 1876 died by April 13, 1921 6. Amanda M. Mullen 7. Alonzo F. Mullen born Oct 14, 1883 8. Rosa Arnetta Mullen married _______Cortner born Dec 5, 1885" (yes I would like the news article you have) June London (descendant of Alkanah Mullen ((brother of Wm F. )) & Mary Driver) said Bob Mullen compiled much of this information. I "Googled" Bob Mullen Genealogy and found many references you may want to pursue. I don't know if this is helpful but I have information about a Clarence Mullen in the 1914 History Book of Randolph Co. He married Gertie Wilt (also in this book) and their marriage record of 19 Feb 1891 in Randolph Co. says the service was performed by Min. J.R. Cortner. Thank you for the info; I confess I've been working on my father's HARMON line and not on my mother's MULLEN line since she is deceased. BTW, there are two MULLENs in our family that have died of ALS. Rita > I do have a question about the daughters that I'm hoping you can > answer.  > Mrs. Sallie Davis - is that possibly Sarah E. Mullen born abt 1868 - > to his first wife Catherine J. Driver? > Mrs. Nettie Wells - I first thought that was Rosa Arnetta, but she is > Mrs. Cortner.  I don't find a name that "Nettie" goes with.  (The > names I have for William Frank's children from his first wife are > Martha M, Sarah E, Melvin E and Elda.) > Mrs. Cortner - which I believe is Rosa Arnetta (by Lydia) born 05 Dec > 1885.  I have a news article with Mr. Cortner's photo in pdf format if > you want it. >   > One of his stepsons (Lydia's first husband's son) is named as Orla and > I have his draft registration card.  I had originally seen the name in > a census as Orlando.  Perhaps he shortened the name?? >   > And finally, Lydia's family in the 1850 census gives her father's name > as James Parks.  In the 1860 census, he is shown as James PARKER.  My > opinion is that Parker was an enumerator error since Isaac had always > used the Parks name, as did his descendants.  My mother was Pauline > Parks, daughter of Arthur, son of Isaac.  But until I can find more on > James, I won't know for sure what his birth surname name was.   >   > I'll send the marriage certificates of Eliza and Isaac Thornburgh and > also of Eliza and James Parks.  (His name is Parks on the certificate, > so I tend to go with that version.) >   > Interestingly, I have learned that Eliza's father, John Clevenger, was > born in 1790 in Frederick Co., Virginia.  That puts him at virtually > the same age as James Parks - and both censuses where I find James > Parks list him as having been born in Virginia.  I have to do more > digging with respect to John Clevenger in Virginia to see if I can > find any neighboring Parkses, because I'm told by the various counties > that no birth or death certificates are recorded for James, Isaac or > Lydia.  Has your research led you to Virginia where the Clevengers > lived? >   > Thru the Muncie Public Library, I found a couple divorce documents for > a James Parks after the death of Eliza.  The wife's name was > Catherine/Katherine.  I have no idea if this is "my" James Parks, but > the timing, place and events are possible.  Our family history says > Isaac "left his father's home" at the age of 14 and worked for a > circus before he met and married his wife in Wells County, IN.
