I am looking for information on Orrin S. Canfield, born NY approximately 1841 to parents, Dennis Canfield and Clarissa Forbes. Orrin was last found on the 1900 census in Carlton, NY with his 2nd wife of 2 months, Frankie and grandson Francis. Orrin's first wife was Alzina Harrington. The only other record after the census that I could find was his pension card from the Civil War that stated he died in Ridgeville, IN on July 11, 1919. I sent for his death certificate which stated that his wife was Polly Ann Canfield and his date of birth was 1834. The informant for his death was a Wes Canfield of Ridgeville. I really think that the information listed on his pension card is for another Orrin S. Canfield. Can anyone shed some light? Thank you, Maureen Sausen Lincoln, CA

I did not find Orrin Canfield in the Ridgeville Newspaper index, nor did I find him in the Winchester Democrat Obit Collection (1900-1935). That July 1919 time period is missing in the microfilm collection as well at the Winchester Library. While there I looked through the 1908 RCI directory, no Canfields listed anywhere. I looked through 1919 and 1920 student lists for Franklin and Ward Townships and Ridgeville, for any Canfield with no results there either. The only other thing I can think of to prove or disprove this Orrin for you, is the Union City Newspaper, which often covered Ridgeville items or even checking the newspapers of Portland (Jay County).
