    2. There is always the chance that she had no one to stand up for her or was emancipated for some reason. There again, you'd need to know if she could marry without some sort of documentation to verify her age. So the clerk's office would information on what the marriage laws were at the time then? What's bothering me about this marriage certificate is the no witnesses part, no one to stand up for the bride. From what I can figure from her death record and from later census schedules, she would have been around 16/17 at the time of the marriage so I would have thought someone would have stood up for her. That is assuming that she would have admitted to being underage at the time of her marriage. But even if she didn't, wouldn't she have had to find someone who would confirm her age? This missing piece is just nagging at me for some reason and I'd love to be able to figure out what the state of affairs was at the time. 3. Exactly! I found a very helpful librarian at the Indiana State Library who is looking into some things for me, hopefully I'll hear back from her soon. I'm going to ask around at the Randolph Historical Society also, as was suggested. Between the two I may be able to get a better picture on what was going on with Randolph Co. marriages at this time. 2. This might also be a question for Allen County Library. It's a subject they could cover in their newsletter. ----- Original Message ----- From: Nicole La Rue To: inrandol@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, October 21, 2008 9:06 AM Subject: Re: [INRANDOL] Newbie with a question on marriage Exactly!
