My Pierce family, my great-great-grandfather, Thomas Pierce came to Randolph county, about 1819 from Ross County, Ohio, to homestead. The land was 3 miles east of Winchester. Lydia came with her parents, Thomas Ward and Mary Margery Pickett Ward from Ohio. Thomas & Lydia were married in Indiana. Thomas Pierce was born to Samuel and Delilah Taylor Pierce in Virginia - they moved to Ohio when he was very young. He had an older brother, Burkett Pierce, who married a sister of Lydia, Elizabeth Ward. They went to Randolph county before Thomas, or about the same time. They all went there to homestead.
