I found another family named Bumpas in the 1860 census for Indiana, LaGrange county, Springfield township. It was headed by Joseph Bumpas, 34, farmer, born in Ohio and included Margaret A, 26, NY, Avilla, 10, Ind, Viola, 6, Ind, and Roderick, 1, Ind. Living next door was a family headed by John E McNally and Elizabeth. Included in this family were Precilla Bumpas, 22, Ohio and Permelia Colby, 33. Seems you have a real tangle to undo. Good luck.
