Surnames: Bumpus, Colby, Wells, Marlow, Lattin, Dillon, Hart, Conlee Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Bk.2ADE/1335 Message Board Post: Reuben Bumpus was born in NY abt 1800, was in Richland Co., OH. by 1830, had a son, Frederick, in abt 1833, married Jane Wells in 1835 and according to the 1850 census had sons William, b. 1837, Samuel, b. 1840, Emanuel, b. 1843 and Korey or Arney b. 1848. Jane must have died, as Reuben married Pricilla Colby in 1853. Then I loose them except for Samuel who was working on the NJ Hunt farm in Nettle Creek twp, RANDOLPH CO., IN. I know from the Widows Pension Application filed on behalf of Samuels widow Mary in 1885 that Samuel went to school in Randolph Co. so I expected to find the family there. I can find no evidence of Reuben Bumpus or Pricilla in the county in the 1860 census. Samuel's son lived with a 1/2 brother of Samuel he knew as Uncle James Bumpus who is probably Ruben James Bumpus living in Holt Co., MO., just a few miles from where Samuel lived, after Samuel died in 1885. I expect James to be a son of Pricilla and Reuben. Can anyone help with this riddle? Should I be looking for a Wells or Colby family in order to determin what happened to Reuben Bumpus and family?
