    1. [INRANDOL] Cassius James Campbell and Taylor M. Campbell - possibly adopted in 1865 by their half-brother?
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Campbell, McAdams, Faulkner, Brown Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Bk.2ADE/1507 Message Board Post: First of all, I'm not sure if any adoptions were official or recorded in 1865 - does anyone know? Cassius and Taylor Campbell were brothers whose parents Alexander Campbell and Sarah Ann McAdams both died in 1865 in Indiana. Cassius was born 7 June 1856 and Taylor was born 28 April 1849. The boys were about 9 and 16, respectively, when their parents died. Alexander Campbell also had children from his first marriage to Susanna Brown (m. 5 Jan 1826 in Belmont Co., Ohio): Hezekiah (b. 2 Jan 1827) Ruth (b. around 1833) Caroline (b. 11 Fed 1837 In 1865, Hezekiah would have been 38 so he could have taken the boys in. Hezekiah Campbell married Rachel Faulkner (b. 27 Dec 1833 in Randohph Co., IN) on 16 Oct 1850 in Randolph Co., IN. By 1865, four of their seven children had been born: Marion Francis (b. 8 Aug 1851) Ruth Caroline (b. 25 May 1854) William Alonzo (b. 17 Oct 1857) Charles Alexander (b. 14 Oct 1860) The first three children were born in Randolph Co., IN. Charles was born in Deleware Co., IN. Their next child was born in Randolph Co. in 1867. It makes sense that Hezekiah may have taken in Cassius and Taylor Campbell. This is supported a bit by the fact that Cassius ("Casus") is living with his half-nephew William Alonzo Campbell in the 1880 census for Nottingham Twp in Wells Co., IN. Any info would be greatly helpful and greatly appreciated. These are the main bits of info I am seeking: -who did Cassius and Taylor live with after Alexander and Sarah Campbell died? -when did Sarah Campbell die? (I know Alexander died 19 May 1865; I only know that Sarah died in 1865) -where did Alexander die? (I believe he may have died in Montpelier, Marion Co., IN, but his body is buried in Windsor Cemetery in Randolph Co., IN. Also buried in this cemetery is Howard S. Campbell (a third son of Alexander and Sarah Campbell, who died at age 12 in 1860), Hezekiah Campbell (d. 1877), and Hezekiah's wife Rachel (d. 1914. -for how long and with whom did Cassius and Taylor live after their parents died? -for how long did Cassius live with William A Campbell (perhaps he moved in after Hezekiah died in 1877?)? I know that I have a lot of questions, and I appreciate any hrlp or information that anyone has. I'd also be interested in knowing how "adoptions" like this were recorded in this time (around 1865). Thanks so much in advance!!
