    3. When I asked to see some of the earliest ones, they told me"We don't have any place for you to look at the books" That one is a bit hard to get around! Was looking for Matilda Bailey--still have found no death record or burial for her. 3. That's not a valid exception because the agency must make accommodations to comply with the law. Here is part of the statute dealing with access to records. The full statue can be found at http://www.ai.org/legislative/ic/code/title5/ar14/ch3.html Tony Meeks IC 5-14-3-3 Right to inspect and copy public agency records; electronic data storage; use of information for commercial purposes; contracts Sec. 3. (a) Any person may inspect and copy the public records of any public agency during the regular business hours of the agency, except as provided in section 4 of this chapter. A request for inspection or copying must: (1) identify with reasonable particularity the record being requested; and (2) be, at the discretion of the agency, in writing on or in a form provided by the agency. No request may be denied because the person making the request refuses to state the purpose of the request, unless such condition is required by other applicable statute. (b) A public agency may not deny or interfere with the exercise of the right stated in subsection (a). The public agency shall either: (1) provide the requested copies to the person making the request; or (2) allow the person to make copies: (A) on the agency's equipment; or (B) on the person's own equipment. ----- Original Message ----- From: "M J B" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, May 30, 2007 12:12 PM Subject: [INRANDOL] Access to death records in winchester > When I asked to see some of the earliest ones, they told me"We don't have > any place for you to look at the books" > > That one is a bit hard to get around! > Was looking for Matilda Bailey--still have found no death record or burial > for her. > > MJ > > _________________________________________________________________ > Catch suspicious messages before you open them-with Windows Live Hotmail. > http://imagine-windowslive.com/hotmail/?locale=en-us&ocid=TXT_TAGHM_migration_HM_mini_protection_0507 > > > ******************************** > Please Visit The Randolph County INGenWeb Project > http://www.rootsweb.com/~inrandol/ > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. MJB, was that when it was in the basement of the courthouse, or in the office on Main Street, which I can see that with both of those places, they never had a place for anyone to come behind the desk to work on genealogy. I think there is lots more room at the new office at the old Hospital on Oak Street. Still, that doesn't mean co-operation. Facinating what Tony has provided us with. Andrea
