    3. Ok I talked to a few people today who have lived in Randolph County, about Heaston cemetery and was told there are no more stones there. That the ground is owned by the Armory. You can see where the cemetery used to be, and the little creek that runs through the piece of ground. I was told the land flooded often, and families were complaining about the water. They moved several of the bodies to Fountain Park and several were left behind. The ground was stirred around a bit, and stones removed, and some of the families were told no remains were to be found. From what I have read and what I have been told, it looks like several people were upset about the conditions of the flooding land, and then they were not happy with what was done about it either. Anyone else hear any stories about this cemetery?? Gina

    3. Sorry this is so long after the original message, but I have only just now been able to mail to the list again. > Ok I talked to a few people today who have lived in Randolph County, about Heaston cemetery and was told there are no more stones there. > That the ground is owned by the Armory. > You can see where the cemetery used to be, and the little creek that runs through the piece of ground. If this is the wooded piece of ground just behind the Armory, then I was taken there by a relative in October of 2001 while we were making the rounds of cemeteries where we had ancestors buried. I was told that there was an Allen stone there at one time, but there were no upright stones to be seen as we walked through the place that day. There were several stones lying flat on the ground, however, and I would not be surprised if there were others that are now covered with several inches of grass and dirt. My relative said that there was a story that a dumptruck full of tombstones from there had "disappeared," the stones ending up at a dump, while the lot was being obtained and prepared for house construction. There are houses nearby, and I do not know the original boundaries of the cemetery, but some of those people might be living atop gravesites. Stuff like that breaks a genealogist's heart. -- ===================| William J. 3. Someone needs to go to the Court House to the land records and check out the land. From begining to present then post the record trail of owner's. Maybe the land was donated for a Cemetery. in the early 1800's. If it was it should have a imformation abt this in a deed. Most Cemeteries wer donated land by a land owner at some pointt or just had a owner's family in it. If you have the address then get a discription of the layout of the address and can begin there going back. The land where the cem was may have had more land added or been removed from the origin of the owner that owned it when it was startdf to be a cemetery. maybe it was never removed and remained in the prop owner's name on down the line to present. At any rate it usualy is GREED for MONEY that causes these unkept cem's to be destroyed. Maxine willma@sprynet.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "William J.
