In 1910, I find Mildred living with her grandmother, father and a cousin. Franklin Township, District 129. Household of Lambert, Sabina, 69 widowed 3children 2living, b Indiana, carpet weaver Stanley, Evertt?, grandson, 13 b. Indiana Beekman, Mildred, granddaughter, 7 b. Indiana Beekman, John, son in law, 40 widowed, b. Indiana, laborer of odd jobs In 1920, I find Mildred living with her grandmother again. Winchester Ward 1 District 171 on East Orange Street between Stone Street and South Meridian Street. Knowing Winchester, this means that their home is now where the South Side Park is, across the street from Stone Mansion. Household of Lambert, Sabera, 78 widowed, b. Indiana Beekman, Mildred, granddaughter, 17 b. Indiana
In 1919 there was a Mildred Beekman in Winchester High School as a Sophomore. Found on Google search for "Mildred Beekman" E-mail message checked by Spyware Doctor (6.0.0.386) Database version: 5.11180 http://www.pctools.com/en/spyware-doctor-antivirus/
Does anyone have a Mildred Beekman in their family line. I went to take pictures of a log cabin in Wayne Township, and as the owner and I were getting ready to leave, he stumbled, literally upon a Geography Book dated 1910, reprint 1911, it was a school book, and it has the name Mildred Beekman written in the cover, I took it with me and photographed the book today and inside I found where she had used the book to press leaves, the leaves were gone, but the name of each is at the top of the page, and some left their mark. Also in the book, she had some other papers, where she wrote lesson geography names, and also were she practiced her penmanship, and a pencil drawing of a man, that is quite good. Anyone know of her? Andrea

1. Hoggatt - Frazier (Gloria) ------- Message: 1 Date: Sun, 16 Nov 2008 12:07:02 -0800 I am looking for the parents of Elizabeth Frazier who married William Henry Harrison Hoggatt on 10/31/1834 (or maybe 1/2/1835) at Randolph Co., IN. Their children were Isaiah, Sarah Ann, Lurana, Jeremiah, Mary and Henry. William's family was Quaker, previously from Guilford, NC where William was born on 10/19/1812. According to obituary, he moved with his family to Randolph Co. when he was 12. Elizabeth was born about 10/26/1816 in Indiana. In 1836, William and Elizabeth moved to Iowa where they settled in Salem, Henry County. Both Elizabeth and William are buried in South Salem Cemetery. I have quite a bit of information about William's family, but nothing about Elizabeth's family. In various census, William is also known as Harrison and W.H.H. Hoggatt, and also as Hockett. If anyone has any information about Elizabeth., please contact me. ------------------------------------------------- Gloria....the spellings of HOGGATT and HOCKETT...are just two of the variant spellings of HOGGARD, HAGGART and HAGGARD. These variants are due to the depth of the brogue spoken by those who were trying to identify themselves to the many Court Clerks, Ships Captain, etc. The thicker the brogue...the worse the phonetic sound that was converted to printed form. So many variants. *S* I do happen to have a rather extensive file on this surname, as I am a HAGGARD/HOGGART descendant, of the Southern lines. BUT...I do have some of the Northern lines in my files too and your spelling variants jogged my memory a bit. *S* When I get a chance I'll look to see what I might have for you. If you'd like to take this off-list...email me. *S* Lisa < kcks@gorge.net >
Thanks to all who replied to my message. Many years ago I found several books at a local library with the records of the Friends Meetings. That was how I traced my Jay family. I did write to Tom Hamm and he was very helpful at that time. I'm glad to see he is still at the Lilly Library. Back then, I was only tracing the Jays. I will follow your advice and see what turns up. Thanks, again. Gloria Andrea wrote: > There are a lot of Frazier Friends buried at Cherry Grove Friends...
There are a lot of Frazier Friends buried at Cherry Grove Friends, probably some at Quaker Lynn. You should go two routes here for info I think. One would be the museum, cemetery records and Friends directories would help you here I think. Also ask for the land records info from the land deeds records index book from the Cincinnati, Ohio office. All land purchases for this area were recorded in Cincinnati during those early years. www.randolphcountyindianahistoricalsociety.org and I think you should contact Tom Hamm at the Lilly Library, Earlham College in Richmond, IN. Tom is the custodian of records (for Indiana Yearly Meeting) and works in the Archive of the library. He would be able to get the minutes from the meeting that she attended, became a member of, was born a birthright friend of, which would include her parents names, where they were born if they were Friends, where they came from, when they passed, where they are buried maybe and so on. The area they were probably in would have been Greenfork and/or Washington Township. 1816, Indiana was just barely at state when she was born, Randolph County area would have been a part of Wayne County at the time. Randolph County was formed from Wayne County, IN Sept. 1818, and the county line ran all the way up to the Michigan State Line. Friends Meetings to focus on would be New Garden, in New Garden Township, Wayne County, IN. This meeting was just laid down this spring. All the records should be at the Archive. Cherry Grove Friends, Bloomingsport Friends, Lynn Friends, Arba Friends. Arba was the first community in Randolph County in the Territory Days. Cherry Grove was laid down in the 1950s, Bloomingsport a few years ago. Lynn and Arba are still active, but their early records will probably be at the Archive. Go to www.iym.org for addresses for the meetings. Andrea
