    1. [INRANDOL] Obit for Samuel Edwin Byrd 1855-1906
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Byrd, Davis Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Bk.2ADE/1321 Message Board Post: Please reply if anyone connects to Samuel. Samuel Edwin Byrd, was born in Randolph county, Indiana, on September 24, 1855, and died September 29, 1906, at the age of 51 years and 5 days, in a hospital at Wichita, Kans., where he had been under medical care for five weeks. He came to Pratt, Kans. in 1885, and from there to Wellsford the next spring, and on November 27, 1889 was married to Cora A. Davis, of Haviland. He was converted in August, 1893, at an M. E. camp meeting held at Wellsford by Brother Dunning and the pastor, Brother Clapper, and with his wife was received into the M. E. church by Brother Erie. He lived in the neighborhoods of Wellsford, Providence, Prairie Flower, Haviland, and Greensburg and everywhere was well esteemed. Being isolated from the M.E. church, he and his family joined the Friends at Prairie Flower in the spring of 1904, and are yet members of that meeting. He was a consistent Christian, never fearing to uphold the cause of Christ, was always sympathetic and cheerful and had a sincere love of his associates. His last testimony was clear and decisive. Three days before the end in bidding his little daughter good-bye, he said, "I want you all to be good amd meet me in Heaven". To his mother-in-law he expressed himself as "ready, ready", and to the nurse he said, "I am sorry to leave my family, but I am ready to go at any time",, so that while we mourn him, a sister and three brothers, his dear wife and two sons and one daughter, with hosts of friends. Funeral services at the Friends church, Haviland, in charge of Isaac A. Woodard, October 1, 1906.

I didnt find any other listings pertaining to his family ect... I hope this helps you and again sorry for the wait. Sincerely Ann Mongar CHRISTIAN HUFFMAN is a farmer , and his post office address is Winchester. He was born in Warren County, Ohio, December 4, 1819, and is a son of Stephen and Catharine Huffman, native of Virginia. He came to this county with his parents in 1822, and settled in the woods, and was all his life accustomed to hard work. When a small boy, he had to do the milling on horseback. There was a small mill on Salt Creek, but when the waters ran low in that romantic stream , the next nearest mill was fifteen miles away. On one occasion, when the Salt Creek Mill was not running, he had to go to the Smithfield Mill, fifteen miles away. Owing to the crowd, he had to stay two days and two nights, and then had to come away without getting his flour bolted, as bolting was done by hand and the bolt being three days behind the bubr. He brought his grinding back and bolted it himself at his home mill, where the mill and bolt were both idle. He attended school in a log cabin with clapboard ! roof, slab seats, and a log cut for a window. He was married February 15, 1850, to Miss Jane Muckey, a native of New York, and daughter of Jacon Muckey. In the Huffman family there were seven children, and now but four are living—Leonidas born May 3, 1854; Evangeline, born February 20, 1858 and died February 2, 1881; Stephen D., born July 1860; Ellen A., born March 14, 1864; Mary W., born September 25, 1869.

    1. [INRANDOL] Knox Co., Indiana Territory 1790
    2. I am researching the SMOCK family of SE Illinois Territory 1800-1810. I am aware that the area at this time was Randolph Co., IN Terr and became Randolph Co., IL Terr in 1809. However, recently I was informed that Randolph Co., IN Terr was out of Knox Co., NW Terr. My "The Handbook for Genealogist" doesn't make this transition very clear. The time line for Territories is- NW Terr formed ? IN Terr formed 1800 IL Terr formed 1809 IL State formed 1818 ______ Counties to the west north west of the juncture of the Ohio and Wabash Rivers-- Knox Co 1790 formed out of NW Terr (original area of Knox unknown) Randolph Co 1795 formed out of NW Terr Gallatin Co. 1812 formed out of Randolph Co Johnson Co. 1812 formed out of Randolph Co Pope Co. 1816 formed out of Gallatin and Johnson Cos Hardin Co. 1839 formed out of Pope Co. My C. SMOCK and family came to the area (Cave in Rock on the Ohio River) between 1800 and 1808. This was the time just before the transition from IN Terr. to IL Terr and just after the transition from NW Terr. Apparently they came to IN Terr, but which county-Knox or Randolph? The question is where would they record their right to land? Best regards, Hugh

    3. Great information. Thank you, Billy. ----- Original Message ----- From: Billy J. Baker To: INRANDOL-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, March 08, 2003 1:52 PM Subject: [INRANDOL] Mt. Zion Cemetery Mt. Zion Cemetery is located just east of the County Infirmary and then three-quarters of a mile south. Many of the early grave markers are ordinary boulders picked up in a nearby field or taken from the river bottom. Some of them are marked with the initials of the deceased, others have no mark whatever to designate the names of those who rest there. The first burial there was Ursula Wheeler, who died May 4, 1841. As one wanders about this little well-kept cemetery reading the inscriptions on the monuments he soon realizes that many of those who rest there were born in the second century before ours, while other names recall to memory those with whom we mingled. - Written in 1940. Below is a list of some of the early burials: Ursula Wheeler died May 4, 1841, aged 35 Yrs. 7 M & 16 d. Thomas Butts, died August 8, 1848, 70 years. W. E.
