Could Samuel and Sarah Wright's son Thomas b. 1828 in OH be the same one who married Sarah Ruble? This is really all I have on the Wright Family as my line is through Walter Ruble (unknown parents/brothers/sisters) whose daughter Delila married my ancestor Jacob Fisher, and I have not pursued the Wright family with the exception of the information above. If you need more information on Walter Ruble and Sarah Wright decendants I would be happy to share it with you.

    3. Or a dollar or two spent on "flowers" from Wal-Mart....that's all it takes. There are graves near my family members' graves that I never see anyone visit and never see flowers on them. Why not? Shirley ----- Original Message ----- From: Kathleen Burnett To: DEKENT-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, June 24, 2003 11:13 AM Subject: [DEKENT] Memorial Day - Lonely Graves For those of you who are visiting the cemeteries and graves of your loved ones, your ancestors this weekend and have a few extra flowers, think of placing them on one of the lonely graves which are never visited. Or, if you are living in an area where you have no one, think of visiting a cemetery and placing flowers by one of these lonely graves. I live in Logan Utah and tomorrow I will be visiting several local cemeteries and will be placing flowers on graves. Over the past years I have adopted these graves, these people and I hope that someone out there is doing the same for my loved ones. Let's see if I can get this right: Samuel Ruble & Rachel Thornburgh also had a daughter (I think they might've had a lot of kids, right now I don't recall and it's 5 in the morning!), but anyway, this daughter also was named Rachel, and Rachel Ruble married Thomas Wright, and they had a son, Jonathan Ruble Wright, who had (among 6 others!) a son, Charles Louis Wright, who had a son, Kenneth Richard Wright, who is my father!! My name is Wendy Wright Contos, and I live in Pennsylvania. Interestingly, it looks like the Wrights originated around Philadelphia where I live, but I was born in Kentucky. (And my dad is from Nebraska, where the Wrights migrated from Indiana and previously from Ohio and South Carolina) I have more than a bit of information, depending on which way you've gone with this query. Let me know and I can send it . . . Wendy Contos P.S. There was also a Walter Ruble who married a Sarah Wright, but it's really unclear if it was the same Wright family, or if so how closely related they already were.

    2. I am finally getting back to these members regarding Spence and related families. Shelley: mamaBear@hotelLafayette.com Billy: billybak@erols.com Tim: tsingleton@iclub.org Jane: jetorres@indiana.edu Dear Shelley, I knew she was not a Martha, but I had Natha for Clyde’s wife, but if she was your grandmother you must know that it really was Matha, so I will change it. You said Matha Britt was born in Carlo - is that actually Carlos IN? I do the Parker High School alumni records, so the one I am most interested in is Oscar Britt grad P 1904; an old alumni list shows him at Trenton New Jersey. I see in the obit from Billy: Oscar Britt listed in 1940 in Washington D.C. I wonder if you have any dates, family, or other information on Oscar Britt. Tim, do you think your Mabel Ethel Iliff is the one who was married to my Oscar Britt? If you know his dates as being 1886-1956, then it would have been “right on” for him to have graduated from Parker in 1904. I have only very simple questions: What is his date of birth, what is his date of death, where did the family live when Oscar graduated in 1904 from Parker High School, where did they work, did they have children, where are they buried, etc., etc.! (Tee-hee!) Tim, do you think the Mabel Britt 1890-1981, which Billy found, is your Mabel? Shelley, You listed Joshua Chamness Britt b 1859 Wayne Co m Delphina Hardwick 1861-1940. Delphina’s 1940 obit lists her as widow of James C. Britt. Is it the same one? The only thing I had on Chamness was Betty Chamness, who graduated from Stoney Creek H.S. in 1941. Jane, Please tell me who the Jewel/Jule Spence is? Thank you, Nancy

    1. [INRANDOL] Another FYI re Scams
    2. Tim Singleton
    3. 1b. GENEALOGY CONSUMER TOCSIN: Scams at the Speed of Light By Ted Pack tedpack@thevision.net http://www.tedpack.org/ In the old days, back when mail crossed the country in days, sooner or later every genealogist would get a letter from the "American Something- or-Other Institute." It claimed to have accumulated tons of data on your specific family, oddly enough, which you could have, for a fee. What you got was a list of famous people with the surname in question, culled from an encyclopedia, and a list of people in the United States with that surname, culled from telephone company databases. It left the exact relationship of all of these people as an exercise to the gullible. The scam artists changed their name every couple of years, but the game was the same. Today, e-mail crosses the country at the speed of light. The crooks do too. If you do genealogy on the Internet, sooner or later you'll get an e-mail offer from a scam artist. If you do, put one hand on your wallet and back away slowly. Typically they promise millions of names (sometimes billions) in hundreds of databases. They take your money, then give you links to RootsWeb and other free sites. They change names a lot and often have "genealogy," "gen," or "family" in their titles. They promise a 5-, 7- or 10-day free trial, but ask you for a credit card number. They ask you to sign up for a month, with the option to cancel, if not satisfied. Once they get your credit card number, it is virtually impossible to cancel your subscription. How can you tell if the e-mail is from these scam artists with yet another name? A couple of ways. Typically these outfits use a Yahoo, Hotmail, Juno, or some throwaway e-mail account. If you reply to this e-mail, your message either bounces or is never answered. The website itself has neither a customer service mail link nor a toll-free telephone number. So, if you get e-mail saying, some outfit "may" have data you asked for on the SMITH board (for example) just last month, and all you have to do is sign up for a trial subscription. Be warned. It's a lie. * * * [Editor's Note: Check "Consumer Protection" topic at Cyndi's List under Myths, Hoaxes & Scams: http://www.cyndislist.com/myths.htm#consumer * * * Previously published in RootsWeb Review: Vol. 6, No. 19, 7 May 2003 Tim Singleton, tsingleton@iclub.org Volunteer INGenWeb Coodinator Adams Co., IN - http://www.rootsweb.com/~inadams/ Randolph Co., IN - http://www.rootsweb.com/~inrandol/

    3. Maxville cemetery was a small cemetery on the north side of State Road 32 Southeast of Farmland. It started in 1824. Woodlawn started across the Maxville road from the Maxville cemetery in 1873, Woodlawn bought the Maxville Cemetery and now they are kind of combined. The Sexton for Woodlawn live in a house next to the last church that was built there. They have all the records for this cemetery and I believe about 8 other cemeteries. Their names are Mr. and Mrs. Bob Swoveland Phone # 765-468 6292. She is in the process of entering all the info in a program and eventually will have a web site. Mrs. Swoveland has been a big help to me, and is great at letting you dig through the records.
