I do have a Hobbick family from the 1870 Indiana Census living in Winchester Randolph County. If this will help anyone the family listed is: Husband and wife: David age 35, Sarah age 29. The children are: Hosia J. age 11, Emma E. age 9, U.S. Grant age 6 and than someone named unknown Retter age 33. I think my Benjamine Franklin might be U.S. Grant age 6 and his name was changed but who knows. Everyone was born in Indiana except the wife Sarah in Ohio and Retter was born in Ohio. I don't know if Retter is male or female and can't read the first name either. Benjamine Franklin Hobbick was married in Mills County Iowa as : Frank Hobbick and married Emma Ryerson in 1886.

Theat's the only information I have on her. Henry married Mahatta Diggs a few years later and raised a family. I find no children from the Hobbick marriage. Henry lived in the Jericho Quaker Community south-east of Winchester, Indiana. Interested in additional information on Bessie - when she was born, died and parents. Appreciate any information.

Hello, Is anyone working on Henry and Mary Smith Mosier family? I have that they had 14 children, their daughter Emily married John Bookout, their daughter Martha married Warren Rogers. The Rogers line is my connection. They were listed on the Nettle Creek Township Census records. Mary Smith Mosier must have died before 1870. She is not listed on that census. Does anyone know where the Mosier family is buried? I have not been able to find them, I searched Union (Old Terrel) Cemetery, Riverside, and Old Losantville. Any info on this family would be appreciated, Gina

As the story goes from our family, when the Hobbick's immigrated to the US, the last name was changed from Von Hobic to Hobbick or it was changed shortly after their entered the US. Does anyone have any information to support this? The earliest information I have is Benjamine F. Hobbick born in Winchester IN Jan 30, 1862, married Emma E. (unknown) from Mills County Iowa who was born Sept 15, 1868. They lived in Nebraska and moved to Colorado in 1920. If anyone has information about the Hobbick family name or knows anything about Benjamine or Emma post or email. Thank you.

Nettle Creek Twp. (in the far SW corner of the county) and adjacent West River Twp. were merged into what is now Union Twp. Huntsville is about in the center of what was West River Twp. Tim Singleton
West River is located between Nettle Creek and Washington Township, on the old map. Nettle Creek in now Union and it looks like West River was split between Union and Washington now. Could some kind soul come to my rescue? Old census images show my Pattersons as living in West River Township but newer information doesn't show a West River Township - only a White River Township. Is it the same? Shirley
There is a bio of a William Turner on page 435 of the History of Randolph County re-re-printed 1992 edition. No mention though of when he died. If you are interested I can photocopy and snail mail to you. Lindsey
Does anyone have a way of checking for a burial, death, etc. on a William Turner in Randolph County? Any help at all would be appreciated. Shirley
The Muncie Morning Star, Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1941 BOOKKEEPER HANGS SELF IN APARTMENT Mrs. Vada Harmon Despondent Since Husband's Death. Mrs. Vada LaVaughn Harmon, 28, took her own life yesterday afternoon by hanging, while despondent over the loss of her husband, Walter E. Harmon, who died July 21. A sister, Mrs. Ila Ford, left Mrs. Harmon's apartment at 103 1/2 South High street at 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon and forty minutes later a neighbor discovered the door locked. When entry was made Mrs. Harmon was found unconscious. Efforts of artificial respiration by police and firemen failed and Mrs. Harmon was pronounced dead at 3:10 o'clock. She was employed at the Rodgers-Yohey Auto Body Corporation as a bookkeeper and was formerly employed by the old Thomas furniture manufacturing company. She was a native of Randolph County but had lived in Muncie for the past twelve years. The body was removed to the Potter-Stephens funeral home and will be returned to the home where friends may call after 7:30 o'clock Tuesday night. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. Surviving are the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lon Silvers, of Muncie; eight sisters, Mrs. Jennings Meranda, of Farmland; Mrs. Harold Mull, of Grand Rapids; Mrs. George Alexander, of Dayton; Mrs. Roy Vandervander, Mrs. Cecil Ford, Mrs. Kermit Frazee, Mrs. Horald Baker and Miss Annabelle Silvers, of Muncie; and two brothers, John Silvers, of Muncie and Kenneth Silvers, of Oakland, Cal. The young woman's husband, Walter (Buck) Harmon, died last July. Mrs. Harmon was employed at the Rodgers-Yohey Body Corporation, as a bookkeeper. She married Walter Harmon five years ago, her husband having been employed as a plant policeman at the Chevrolet-Muncie plant. Jane Torres asked me to pass along this message today: Hello, Many of you are familiar with Billy Baker and the help that he has provided for us on many, many occasions. He has now really outdone himself with his latest project! Billy has typed five full years of obituaries from the Union City Evening News, which in 1939 became the Union City Times-Gazette. The obituaries cover 1936-1940. When I put his original file into Word, if printed it would have been about 550 pages! We have indexed the files alphabetically by the decedent's surname and linked the index to the appropriate obituary but I STRONGLY suggest using the Find feature on your browser once you are on an obituary page. There are hundreds of surnames mentioned in the body of the obituaries that are not evident in the index. The obituaries cover not only the Union City area but much of Randolph County as well as Darke County, Ohio and are often even further reaching into other states. I believe that this will be an excellent resource to all area researchers. The direct URL to the Informational page is: http://www.dcoweb.org/randolph/UCobits/index.html Presently the best way to search the obits is through the DCOWeb.org search engine on the www.dcoweb.org home page. This is a simple search engine so please use one word searches. Take the link at the top of the obituary pages to the Informational page, if you have not already done so - this page also contains the links to the yearly indexes. And, as I said above, once on the actual obit pages, use your Find feature. Many, Many Thanks to Billy and Enjoy!
