Shirley, I have Clevenger's in my family, but I haven't gotten all of the different children traced to the 1940's yet to know if she is one of mine. And no worries on the kittens, I know you love cats way too much to do anything to them, I wouldn't put it past you to have all them cats in your house by New Year's <G> Oh and thanks for finally admitting to the tormenting you do <G> Gina ----- Original Message ----- From: "unicorn1945" <unicorn1945@sbcglobal.net> To: <INRANDOL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, November 22, 2003 7:07 PM Subject: Re: [INRANDOL] Cemetery Listing > I've been looking for the proud owner of a Josephine Clevenger. You are correct, of course. Same thing out here in Cheyenne. We have four separate cemetery sections within the same large Cheyenne cemetery.
The only thing you got to keep in mind though is that sometimes the churches changed denominations and names. So there is a chance that the cemetery could have a different name. And those people are not from here, and would have to look into it a little bit before they take someone's word for it. Just think in a hundred years, what people will be saying about Maxville, you have Woodlawn Cemetery on one side of the road and also parts that wraps all around the old Maxville church and Maxville Cemetery is actually across the street. Old Terrell is across the Street from Union, but they are usually classified as Union now. In Delaware County, my mother works at Union Cemetery, in Eaton. But, there is also inside that cemetery, the Old German Baptist, Old Studebaker, and Old Dunkard Cemetery. So technically there are 4 cemeteries in 1. The church was German Baptist, Brethren and I think a few other denominations. Old Dunkard Church is now an Agape Ministries. Old records list the directions to the cemetery, but it has to be confusing for people from out of town who may not know that when they drive out there and see a huge Union Cemetery sign, that they are in fact at the right place. There are no signs for the 3 older ones. They are more or less just known as "sections" now. All this just shows how important it is to document everything, so later generations will know how things were. This is so stupid. The cemetery is directly behind the church at Buena Vista. What else would it be called?
Just got this. I guess the GNIS folks are easier to deal with than the IRS and don't require as much "proof". Huntsville, Randolph County Indiana has a cemetery on the south west side of town and a few mile north of Huntsville is the Buena Vista Church with a large cemetery. Gina, I have some photos from the New Lisbon cemetery. If you'll send me your snail mail address I'll get copies and send to you. I will have to hunt them up so may be a few days. Helen Sheldon gnhsheldon@aol.com
At present the map makers in Washington DC(?) know of an "unnamed" cemetery just south west of the Huntsville in RCI. Before they print a name on the map and include it in a names data base they want proof that the name assigned to the cemetery is correct. That we call it the Huntsville Cemetery is not enough. Perhaps a page from Tuckers, a deed, minutes or a charter for the Huntsville Cemetery Association....if there is one. I guess official in this context means what ever proof is acceptable to the GNIS to get whatever name accepted by them for inclusion in their data base. In the same manner, they know that the church is the Buena Vista Church, but that's not good enough to know it's "the" Buena Vista cemetery. I have seen the plot plan of that cemetery in the cemetery office(?)/shed but paid no attention to the cover or if they had documentation of the true name whatever it is. Hope this helps. According to Aunt Eleanor, John was never heard from again, and she always added "He may have gone to Chicago." She knew he was married to Sarah Gantz, and said they had no children. About five years ago, I received an obit from Monisa that said John was living in Muncie when his mother died. Of course he had a farm at one time in Farmland, so this lent credience to the story that John moved away from the family. Years passed and all my searches yielded many a John Clark in Munci and Chicago, but never the one I wanted. Then, the Gantz family book came out, and contact was made with a descendant of John living out West. And what did I learn from my "long lost cousin" about why John stopped speaking to the family? He died the year before my grandfather. No wonder he stopped speaking! And when he died, he left behind a wife and daughter. So much for having no children.
