Hereis the url for the Winchester-Union City paper. They don't do a very good job of updating it dailey, but its better than nothing. http://www.winchesternewsgazette.com It covers both towns. -----Original Message----- From: Shirley [mailto:unicorn1945@sbcglobal.net] Sent: Friday, January 02, 2004 10:00 AM To: INRANDOL-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [INRANDOL] Union City paper One source says there were three or maybe even four daily papers out of Union City until the early 1900's. The Gazette was published in the 1937 - 1939 time frame. The Evening Times was published in the 1934 - May 1939 time frame. The Gazette merged with the Evening Times in April 1939 The Times-Gazette was published from the above time until at least June 1968 That was the end of the newspapers for Union City, Indiana. There were some earlier newspaper publishing that occurred on the Ohio side of the town. Whether any of those papers were preserved by Darke Co. or the Ohio Historical Society is unknown. The above are the only known Union City, Indiana newspapers available on microfilm from the Indiana Historical Society. Tucker's History of Randolph Co. identifies other earlier newspapers including the Times being published in Union City, however. There were newspapers published in Farmland and also Winchester that were published much earlier in time that are available on microfilm.. Billy

Hello List, I have a few more things added to the web site. I finally have the information about the Heaston Cemetery online, it is a list of burials from Tucker's History. http://www.rootsweb.com/~inrandol/Randolph_Count/WhiteRiverTwsx.html Maxville Cemetery Records are now completed. http://www.rootsweb.com/~inrandol/maxvillerecords.htm And there is also a map of the Maxville Woodlawn Cemetery Additions. http://www.rootsweb.com/~inrandol/Randolph_Count/maxvillewoodlx.html There have been a few more obituaries added also. http://www.rootsweb.com/~inrandol/contributedobits.htm And I made a link to Email Archives, one is searchable the other is threaded. http://www.rootsweb.com/~inrandol/Randolph_Count/EmailListx.html I still have a few more cemeteries to transcribe, and several more records to get from the Sexton's. I will be getting copies of Woodlawn soon, the Sexton is updating her records and will be getting back to me with those. I will be adding the following link to the cemetery page, if any of you have photos of tombstones you want to share with others. This website has a place to submit them. They have quite a few Randolph county cemeteries already listed, with maps. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=csr&CScnty=859 There is still quite a bit of information that people has sent to me that needs to be added, and hopefully after the New Year I will get more time to work on the web site. That's very sad and I wonder if it's the same in all counties/states? I'd hate to think my relatives lay beneath a building because some didn't know they had kin! And how would they know??? Obviously they couldn't and would they even bother to check? I doubt it. Seems to me there ought to be a statute of limitations on burial removals....either a given length of time from burial or a known relative. Otherwise they should be moved anyway. I guess the whole thing upsets me simply because I consider burial grounds to be rather sacred and shouldn't ever be touched. I first learned how lightly burials were taken when I was 18 and living in Chicago. I learned that the Eisenhower Expressway that I traveled daily ran through a huge old cemetery. It couldn't be stopped. Just my opinion, Shirley ----- Original Message ----- From: M J B To: INRANDOL-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, December 30, 2003 5:42 PM Subject: [INRANDOL] RE: INRANDOL-D Digest V03 #229 I remember them moving the "Old Cemetery" Must have been in the 50's or thereabouts. Story at the time was that in order to move the body, they had to contact living kin and get permission .I also remember being told that not all the boides were moved. It was really a great woodsy place when I was a kid, lots of wild flowers, remember riding out there on my bike.
