    1. [INRANDOL] Where is Billy Baker????!!!!???
    2. I want to know who is Billy Baker and where he is! I want his phone number and I want to call him! I have finally been able to spend the last couple of evenings looking at those listings of Union City newspaper obituaries, and I am in awe! What a fantastic job he has done! I knew he had been praised, but I didn't realize the immensity of the project until this week! My husband and I are so happy with all that work! We have had fun reading them! Even when we found my husband's grandmother's name nearly unrecognizable, we realized that it probably was printed that way in the paper, and that's how Billy transcribed it. I love the beautiful old obituaries - what tributes they were to the deceased! They make the modern obituaries seem cold and dry. I noticed how they progressively were getting more brief and less informative as we moved up to 1941. I would love to have an opinion from an old newspaper-person on why they have evolved suchly. Probably matters of space, plus possibly matters of liability. I kept thinking as I was reading that those obituaries in the 30s were what sold those newspaprs! Did Billy actually do all that trascribing himself? How long did it take him to do those eight years? Is he continuing to do more Union City years? Can he be coerced into doing the same with other Randolph County newspapers? What a valuable service this is to those of us who are seeking! Maybe I am uninformed and there has been this service already done with listing other newspaper obituaries, but this is the first I have seen. Billy!! Please give me your telephone number so we can call you! Thank you, Nancy Hammer, Cheyenne Wyoming

Researching the following surnames: Byrum Cox Hale Harris Huffman Keever McNees O'Brien Ramsey Ulrich For those researching the Cox family, there is an excellent book entitled "Some Descendants of John Cox and Patience Piggott in The Old Northwest Territory" by J. Bernard Benson, published in 1976. I don't know if the Randolph County History Museum has a copy. I believe the Indiana State Library Genealogy section has a copy as well as the Allen County Public Library in Ft. Wayne. My direct line from Benjamin Cox is through his daughter Ann who married David Haworth. Their daughter Ann Haworth married Isom Harris. Their son Cornelius Harris was my great grandfather. It appears that many of us are related through Benjamin Cox! Lynne Ramsey Durocher __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! 1. [INRANDOL] Pierce family history
    2. My Pierce family, my great-great-grandfather, Thomas Pierce came to Randolph county, about 1819 from Ross County, Ohio, to homestead. The land was 3 miles east of Winchester. Lydia came with her parents, Thomas Ward and Mary Margery Pickett Ward from Ohio. Thomas & Lydia were married in Indiana. Thomas Pierce was born to Samuel and Delilah Taylor Pierce in Virginia - they moved to Ohio when he was very young. He had an older brother, Burkett Pierce, who married a sister of Lydia, Elizabeth Ward. They went to Randolph county before Thomas, or about the same time. They all went there to homestead. 1. [INRANDOL] Hammer
    2. Dear Randolph County Friends, The recent notes about Indiana people being buried in Vermillion County Illinois reminds us of our two “brick walls”! We have Fred Hammer 1885-1929, born in Farmland, married Edith, had son Ray Custer Hammer & lived in Indianapolis. The son Ray Custer Hammer may have dropped the Hammer name & gone by Ray Custer & may have stayed around Indianapolis. We were told that Fred & his family were living near Cleveland & Fred was working there when he died in a Cleveland hospital of ruptured appendix. He was buried 25 Jun 1929 at Maxville, age 44. We are unable to find an Indiana death record or an Ohio death record. The stranger part is that we have been unable to obtain a Randolph County obituary, although he was born & raised in Farmland & probably didn’t leave Farmland until in his 20s. Thornburg Funeral Home probably did both funerals, but Thornburgs lost all their records in the tornado. Our second “brick wall” is Fred’s brother, Ray A. Hammer 1888-1924. Like Fred, he was born & raised in Farmland. We don’t have any documentation that either of the brothers graduated from Farmland H.S., but we assume that they did. Ray married Erma, & he worked at American Can at Indianapolis. Ray age 36 was buried 14 May 1924, at Maxville, beside his brother Fred. We think Ray did die at Indianapolis, but we are unable to obtain an Indiana state death certificate or an Illinois death certificate. We think Erma continued living in Illinois & she married 2nd to Eldon Geiger. Ray & Erma had a son Natt K. Hammer born c 1920. We have a photo of Natt in a Boy Scout uniform taken in Decatur Illinois. We have a photo of Natt in an Army uniform c 1943. Natt married Eleanor c 1945 & they had four children, Jeff, Mike, Linda & Natalie Hammer. Natt worked at A.E. Stehly Co. in Decatur, Illinois. We think that the deaths of their two sons perhaps hastened the demise of the parents and that may be why there appear to be no records in the family. But with all the information that we do have, it seems very strange that we are unable to obtain obituaries or death records on either brother. We have corresponded with the states, with the newspapers, with the funeral home, & with Maxville Cemetery. If anyone out there can help us we would be grateful. Thanks a lot. Nancy & Roger Hammer, Cheyenne, Wyoming.
