I have a set of 9 of the Bishop Spnagenburgh's diaries that were printed in books. (8 are original copies and the 9th is a copy of the original 9th book.) when he took the Moravian's into NC in 1700's. Unfortuneatly there isn't any index to any of them. I did find my 5th granfa listed there as he lived close and helped the Catawba's then. He has a MT. named after him. "Barrett's Mountain " there. Name was Jonathon Barrett. To the person, who asked about photographs, my grandfather was taken by his father in 1855 to Hagerstown, IN, for a photograph, which I have in my possession. They lived near the present town of Modoc, Randolph Co., IN. I don't know why they went to Hagerstown rather than Winchester or Economy, unless neither place had a photographer. In 1855, Modoc hadn't yet been founded and Economy was a booming little town. By the way, the photo is a rather large one and is a tintype. My grandfather, Allen Riley Barnett, wrote his life's story for his children, when he was 78 years old and I'm going to quote his description of this photography session. ". . . Before he started back to Iowa he took me down to Hagerstown and had my picture taken. I was then about six years old and, this being my first experience in this line, I could not help feeling a bit nervous. The picture man set me in a chair and adjusted a forked prop to the back of my head. He then pinned a piece of red ribbon to the wall and told me to keep my eyes on it and not move a muscle for sixty seconds for if I did it would spoil the picture. I managed to fill the program and got a good picture. Father took the picture back to Iowa with him and I did not see it again until I came out to Missouri." Jennie Barnett Vertrees

I would also like a look up in the Delaware county books, either or both. I would to find William F. McChristy. He may have lived in Yorktown. He is buried at Hawk Cemetery along with his wife. Hi again. I saw your messages on the Baker families back in October of last year, and this is about the first I have been able to respond. The Bakers I am trying to find more about are families who lived in or around Parker City Indiana, in Randolph County. I will list them. 1. Cal Baker lived in Parker around the turn of the century and they called him “the milk man”. I don’t know why, whether he had a milk route or had dairy cows or what. 2. Horace Baker was from New York state, and he was married to Anna Campbell, & he worked at the Parker furniture factory in the early 1900s. 3. Ed Baker owned some acreage at the edge of Parker & he had cows there. Ed had a daughter Alice Baker b c 1902, graduated ParkerH.S. in 1920. 4. Ralph Baker lived somewhere around or in Parker and he owned a large field close to where my family lived when our kids were small. 5. George Baker also lived in Parker & his wife was Daisy; they had seven children. 6. Alma Baker, b c 1897, graduated PHS in 1915, married Cloyd Bartlett 7. Another Baker married Nettie Burns b c 1904, graduated PHS in 1922 8. William E. Baker lived in Parker; he died before 1954; he had a furniture store in Parker & he was the undertaker. Most of these are connected with my Parker High School alumni research. If anyone recognizes any of them and can help me with information, I would be very grateful. Thanks, Nancy

Hi W. Wilton, My Electa Patterson married Elvin P. Thornburg, Dec 19, 1868 in Randolph County. I have nothing more on him or their children but I haven't researched it yet. Would love to find out more. Yes, the name Thornburg & Clevenger are still VERY common around Randolph and Delaware Counties. I'd love to make some more connections. Hi, Gina. Do you know of any sites where old Muncie newspaper obituaries are listed? Similar to the Union City obits that Billy transcribed? I view the current ones occasionally, but I wonder if there are any old ones that can be viewed. Thanks, Nancy
