    3. Lindsey, I prefer Ancestry to Genealogy.com. I had both, but stayed with Ancestry, I still have some records available for Genealogy.com. If you want to send me the name I will look for you on Genealogy.com, I can also look on Heritage Quest. 1. [INRANDOL] 1880 Census free
    2. The Richardson's
    3. Hello List A message came through on the Delaware County list, that Ancestry.com has their 1880 census records for free right now. I wanted to pass on the info for any of those who don't have a membership and want to take advantage of the records. http://content.ancestry.com/iexec?htx=List&dbid=6742&r=0 I also tried the 1930 census records and it also was not requesting a membership. http://content.ancestry.com/iexec?htx=List&dbid=6224&r=0 You may want to check some of the other years to see if they are the same way. The 1920 census would not work without a membership. Gina

    3. You have to type in surname at a minimum. In other words, you can look for all of a particluar surname with genealogy.com. However, you cannot do a soundex search, not can you break down by townshio, age, etc. I would NOT recommend the free 14 day trial of genealogy.com. Don't get me wrong; I like genealogy.com; but wouldn't recommend the free trial with it, ancestry, or any other. The catch with thos "free trials" is that they will want your credit card, and you will likely have a difficult time cancelling. In other words, something will likely end up on your bill. If you will provide me with first and last name of head of household, (along with any spellings of the last name that you have found), I will check the 1900 and 1910 for you. 3. hello; I don't know just when they started the RETURN of SERVICE items on marriages BUT.... There are now and normaly 3 items to ask for reference to marriages. Due to the fact that some people have applied for a marrage licence and never picked it up so had most likely dropped it or changed their minds. Also the second item is the copy of the ZLicence issued. 3rd is the RETURN of Service which is what the Judge or preacher whoever performed the actual cerimony of marriage has to send back to where the Applicvation and Certificate were issued from to complete the Marriage records. The last one can have names of parents, names of persons who stood up for them, the address of both parties, Place where cerimony was performed,, and also may have other imformation. Soem places ( court houses) have put this imfo in a large book when opende up takes up bothe the left side and the right side showing when the book is opened. You need to ask for all ythree of these items. 1. [INRANDOL] Randolph County INGenWeb Updates
    2. The Richardson's
    3. Hello List! I have a few more updates to the website. Austin Cox contributed a list of burials for Hopewell Cemetery, I finally have them entered and up on the website. The last records were dated 1979 and a few in 1980. I put X's where there was no information available. If you can fill in any of the dates or have more information to add let me know. http://www.rootsweb.com/~inrandol/hopewellcemetery.htm Billy J. Baker has been hard at work transcribing old probate filings. You can find the newest additions at the following link. http://www.rootsweb.com/~inrandol/contributedprobatefilings.htm There are a few more obituaries, I have also added the ones that have been sent through the list. We have quite a few visitors to the website that are not subscribers to the E-mail list. I am also adding some of the other articles that have went through the list for this same purpose. So forgive the repeats <G> http://www.rootsweb.com/~inrandol/contributedobits.htm I have added quite a few more marriage records. I still have a few more pages to work on and I will be adding them as I receive them, so check back for updates. http://www.rootsweb.com/~inrandol/marriages.htm I created E-mail forms on the Marriage, Birth and Death records pages. To submit your information, just fill in the blanks and it will send the information to me. I am hoping this will make it easier for everyone to share their records. So far I have had only one birth record submitted. I am still working on a way to get more of these records online. You can find the forms at the following links. http://www.rootsweb.com/~inrandol/inrandol/MarriageRecorx.html http://www.rootsweb.com/~inrandol/inrandol/BirthRecordsx.html There are also a couple more scanned death certificates. They are not very easy to read and I am working on transcribing them. http://www.rootsweb.com/~inrandol/inrandol/DeathRecordsx.html Austin Cox wrote an article about Lincoln School for the Randolph County Historical Society Newsletter. He gave me permission to add it to the website. You can find the article at the following link. http://www.rootsweb.com/~inrandol/inrandol/LincolnSchoolx.html There are a few more postcards, contributed by Mike Webb. http://www.rootsweb.com/~inrandol/inrandol/Postcardsx.html I am wanting some feedback on these update E-mails. Do you want me to continue sending them, or would you rather check the website for yourself? Please Let me know off- list. The majority of yes or no replies will determine if I continue sending them. Thanks to everyone who has donated their records. And for everyone on this list! You have all been great! 3. It is never safe to "assume" anything with genealogy. You can verify the marriage date at the courthouse in Winchester. I would recommend checking the marriage "application", and not just the license. The application will contain lots of good info. 1. [INRANDOL] Jericho School Reunion
    2. Billy J. Baker
    3. Union City Times-Gazette, Thursday, August 24, 1939 Jericho School Reunion (Contributed) When the Jericho school reunions were young, along about the years 1912 - 1918, under the inspiration of Cal Shultz and Henry Peacock, and many others, large crowds attended. Today, though the attendance has dwindled, yet the spirit of the reunions is just as sweet. Those who were present were of the mind of Annie Peacock Shultz, who said a few days before the reunion, "Well, if there are only two or three there, I'll be there." And she was there with two white cakes and enough ice cream to feed a multitude. And when the time came to decide concerning a future reunion, there was a strong vote carried for a reunion next year at the same time and place. All were repaid for every effort put forth. It was a day happily spent in visiting together, eating together, listening to music and old fashioned recitations, in telling incidents of school days, in reading letters from former pupils. Those on the home base do not get such a thrill out of it all, as do those who came from a distance. Ed Chenoweth, formerly of Chicago, now of Winchester, and Ray Brumfield of Cooper's Institute, New York City, were thrilled in getting home again and in stirring talks evaluated the childhood memories of Old Jericho. Now everyone knows that Jericho was never on any map of geography; yet hundreds of people have spoken of her as though she were the cream of the earth. Ed Chenoweth thought that Jericho was a gold mine of historical significance. Interest centered around Harry Peacock's history of Jericho, as he painstakingly traveled from the early days when Indians were here until the present. The outline grew under his hands that we might see again a neighborhood of people, settling first on Old Owl creek, building homes all about with a meeting house in the midst, and school houses "scattered over the place." A Quaker people, believing that the invisible ideals of the spirit, can take flesh and blood form and pattern, and substance, visible in individual human life, and neighborhood living, no matter what the race or station of its community people be. A Quaker community trying to express its ideals in the schools, with its teachers and curriculums, upon the minds and the hearts and lives of its growing boys and girls! These Jericho boys and girls have been scattered into the various states of the Union, like autumn leaves before the winter wind with a gold mine of memories. The reunion is reaching out by these minutes of the meeting to all those pupils and teachers and parents, hoping to hear by letter or person next year. As the Jericho school was the first school in Wayne township, Harry Peacock will have a part in the reunion program August 27 [1940], at the old fairgrounds in Union City. [The location of the reunion was not given. No listing of those in attendance was provided.]

    1. [INRANDOL] GenFest 2005 - update
    2. Shirley
    3. I apologize for repeats but don't want to leave out anyone. Hi listers. Thought I'd update you on the progress in plans for GenFest 2005. I don't have a lot but promised to try and keep you posted as we go. Our initial meeting included, Muncie Public Library, LDS Family History Center, Bracken Library, Delaware County Historical Society and Minnetrista. I presented the concept to all and everyone seemed enthusiastic. A few fresh ideas came up but nothing was set in stone. Our priority now is to find a date that lets all our main resource centers (those mentioned above) be available. Minnestrista and Bracken both must work around some very busy schedules and so then must we. For example: it would do us no good to plan something that included Minnetrista if they have little parking left for our researchers. Bracken has an even more serious consideration - if they are in interim, the library will not/cannot be open at all. We are waiting these two sources and their availability of a reliable calendar for 2005. At that point, we will meet again and set a date that fits everyone's needs. Also, I am bouncing things off Jane Torres who does the Darke County, OH ListFest each year. Thank you, Jane for your patience and willingness to share your experience. (Jane has invited Mike and I to ListFest in June!) We're hearing some really wonderful ideas to make GenFest special.
