My Scott Family. Martha Ann Scott married circa 1861-1865 Temple Calhoun Smith Jr born 1841 IN, he was located 1860 Randolph CO with his parents and siblings. Unfortunately neither Martha nor her parents/siblings were in this census in this area. Can anyone help me to break down this brick wall? She was born 1847/8 Terra Haute Vigo Co IN not in 1850/60 census of that area. Who was she? Who were' her parents? Where did she marry Temple? What year?

Hi Betty: Here's the information off the Pension file for Joseph P. Miller - Widow Mahala Miller Service - Company F, 50th Indiana Infantry Invalid application made on November 1, 1887, application No. 627.687 - certificate No. 450.985 - State of Indiana Widow application made on what looks like June 8, 1914 or could be 1894, application No. 1029.159, certificate No. 782.324 - State of Indiana There may be a way to look these numbers up, which were fairly legible, and find more data. Hope this helps you. I have some Way stuff (photos) for you then. I don't believe that they found Paul's stone at the old Heaston/Winchester Cemetery, but they did his wife I think. Mark Davis has the proper list of who was found so far there. I do have pictures that I took summer of 2005, and some that Sharon Smith took sametime period but they are after Mark had done the probing and staking of stone bits, and before any of the repair work had been done yet, I have not gotten out there to take new ones, but I have seen some of the work driving by. Sharon is still actively seeking donations to do furture repairs to this cemetery. Such a shame what was done to it right there in the open. Contact me off list, if you would like more info. Andrea Don't worry, Andrea, we're not the spelling police. (That's good because it happens often) Does anyone have any pictures, current and old of the White River? How wide is it? (at the offical beginings it's about 8 feet across when water level is normal) Are there any bridges near town? (I take lots of pictures of White River. I love the river, I mostly take pictures of the area that it offically starts which is the "twin bridges" at 100 South and 300 East. Before that it is named a ditch. I have a few pictures taken of it in other locations. I am not aware of any old beautiful bridges on it anymore. Most are the modern paved bridges. I am not sure if Wright Bridge went over it, but I think it did, at Winsor, I will have to ask my Swingley in-law that one, I have a picture of it, in a wood frame made from the bridge somewhere, buried in a moving box somewhere. There is another one like it at the museum.) Any pictures of the old mills? (I am not aware of these either, but maybe I might run across one, one of these days, I don't think any exist anymore that I am aware of, but I can ask.) (I will share my Randolph County General Pictures very soon, Andrea) Thanks Earlene
Thanks for looking Karen. The pension of Mahala Miller with Joseph, is that for Indiana? Maybe that is the one. My Aunt did alot of this research, so maybe it is Joseph or maybe that is Jacobs' first or middle name. Thanks, Betty
Don't worry, Andrea, we're not the spelling police. I am just so happy that you are doing this. It's really helping a lot of people. My family groups are - WAY, (from Paul WAY, who helped lay out the plat of the county)- and Martin Reeder and his wife "Aunt Polly". It looks like most of the family went to Kansas shortly after the War. Does anyone have any pictures, current and old of the White River? How wide is it? Are there any bridges near town? Any pictures of the old mills? 23 Jacob Millers???? Geez, I know Mahala lived to at least 1900. I don't have a middle name for her as many went by those back then. I know she remarried (don't know when) and her last name was Rhoades. I know she had two children names Alice Arville Miller and Elvira or Elvena and went by the name Ellie. Mahala was in the 1900 census for Randolph County and my Great Uncle Leonard was living with her as Alice died 1896-1897 and the rest of her grandchildren were put in James Moorman Orphanage. Thanks, Betty
