    3. Hi Coleen: I just did a quick search and found the following on your Scott family: 1850 Census, District 7, Boone County, Indiana JONATHAN SCOTT born about 1808 in Pennsylvania - farmer SARAH born about 1817 in Tennessee WILLIAM N. born about 1837 in Indiana JACOB W. born about 1840 in Indiana OWEN H. born about 1841 in Indiana JOHN D. not L. born about 1843 in Indiana MARY L. born about 1845 in Indiana COLUMBUS W. born about 1846 in Indiana MARTHA P. not A. born about 1849 in Indiana HOBSON not HOPSON born about 1851 in Indiana Indiana Marriage Record for Sarah Pair married to Jonathan Scott in Boone County, Indiana on August 4, 1836 The 1850 Census also shows that living on the next farm was the PARR family as follows: WILLIAM PARR age 39 born about 1811 in Tennessee - farmer ELIZABETH F. (wife) age 38 born about 1812 in Indiana JOHN C. born about 1834 in Indiana WILLIAM E. born about 1836 in Indiana MARY P. born about 1840 in Indiana WESLEY H. born about 1842 in Indiana SARAH J. born about 1844 in Indiana NANCY E. born about 1846 in Indiana JACOB J. 8 months old - Census taken in Sept. of 1850 - Assumption - he was born in January of 1850 >From the dates of birth and the close proximity, William was probably Sarah Parr Scott's brother. 1860 Census Boone County, Indiana shows Sarah and the children but no Jonathan. 1860 Census also shows that MARY L. age 15 born about 1845 was now MARY STEVENS The following line shows VINCENT STEVENS age 24 born about 1836 - Assumption that this was Mary's husband I could find no record of Sarah Scott in 1870. She was either deceased or remarried. >From the Family Search records in Utah - posted by JaAnna J. Nelson, 3836 West 1925 South West Valley City, Utah 48125 JONATHAN SCOTT born August 5, 1808 in Pennsylvania. Died August 26, 1852. (Since he appeared on the 1850 census in Boone County, Indiana, and Sarah was still in Boone County in 1860, there is a good probability that he died in Boone County, Indiana) His father - OWEN SCOTT born about 1780 in Washington or Butler, Pennsylvania Died January 2, 1865 in Richland Rush, Beverly County, Indiana Buried possibly at Pleasant Run Cemetery, Rush County, Indiana His mother - MARY (maiden name unknown) married about 1803 probably in Pennsylvania - Died before 1835. His second wife was on the 1850 Census with him Owen Scott's second wife: KISSIAH (or KEZIAH) EARLYWINE married July 7, 1835 Rush County, Indiana. They both appear on the Rush Indiana census in 1850. He was listed as 70 born in Pennsylvania and she was listed as 59 born in Virginia. On the 1860 census they are listed in Rush Indiana. He shows up as 75 born in Virginia which is probably an earror and she shows up as 70 born in Virginia. Owen's father: DAVID or RUBEN SCOTT born about 1730 Pennsylvania Hope this helps - Karen Welch ----- Original Message ----- From: "Coleen Coleman" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, March 28, 2007 7:33 PM Subject: [INRANDOL] My Scott Family > Jonathon Scott > B: 1808/12 Randolph Co IN > M: 4 April 1836 Boone Co IN > D: > Spouse: > PARR, Sarah > B: 20 Sept 1817 Sullivan Co TN > Children: > John L., Owen Howard, William Nelson, Jacob > Wesley, Mary L., Martha Ann (my ancestor), > Columbus & Hopson. > > Who were Jonathons' people? I have heard from my friend who use to attend there. She has gotten me a few phone numbers to try for more into at least with the old cemetery. I was told that in the 1950s the Sunday School Class cleaned up the old cemetery as a class project, and made a booklet that told about the old church that use to be there and documented all the graves. I will try to get a copy of it. My friend said she has seen at least one copy but not sure who all within the church has one, but she has given me many contacts to try for it. I was also told there is a map for the new cemetery. I will try to call them soon. She also provide a website for the church. The Hooper's in Union City Cemetery are 2nd and 3rd cousins of mine. I had that info previously. The David Hooper in the 1860 census, I believe to be my 2nd Great Grand Uncle. I found on Ancestry.com a David Hooper married Elizabeth Devor in Randolph County on 6NOV1856. So I assumed (and you know what assume does) that the 1860 David and Elizabeth Hooper are possibly my ancestors. Then in 1870 and 1880 there is a Melissa/Nancy Hooper and Nathan Hooper living with Thomas Devor and his family. In 1850 David was with his parents in Darke County, Ohio. Also on Ancestry.com there was a Nathan B. Hooper marrying a Viola Mitchel in Randolph County 15Aug1888. A death record for Nathan 21Apr1891 in Portland, Indiana. I am down in Florida and don't get to Indiana often. But now I have a path to search the next time I do get up there. Thank you very much for the photo albums. I'll go thru them soon. So I looked through what records I have on New Lisbon Church (which is still active, you might concider writing the church to see if you can get more information) I find in a headstone reading (done in the 1980s I believe) Vera Devoe Snyder 1921-1955 Robert D. Devoe 1893-1974 Laura I. Devoe (Robert's wife) 1889-1931 In a list of lot owners of the Old part of the current cemetery a Devoe, R. C. owns lot 340. I have a map that can show where that is. I don't know if Devoe is suppose to of been Devor or if there was a change or maybe not even part of your Devor line at all. I found no Hoopers there at all. I found at the Union City Cemetery I found.. DeVore, no first name, died Sept 1892, wife of Moses, sec H, east of creek, lot 792, no head stone. Hooper, Frances E. 1906-14Dec1907, sec SA, east of creek lot 10, has a stone Hooper, Harry Allen 27Dec1877 5Sept1964, sec SA, eoc, lot 10, has a stone Hooper, Kathryn 28May1875 21Oct1956, sec SA, eoc, lot 10, has a stone. I do though, have some pictures on-line of Devor at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. go to http://new.photos.yahoo.com/sharplongancestors/albums there are two albums as I can only put so many photos in each album. Devor that I can see are a Soldier, Devor picture DSCF0226, John ? Devore DSCF0227, ?Devore DSCF0228 and 9 ,Nathan Hooper DSCF0230&1&2, D.J.Devore soldier DSCR 0233, Nancy Devor DSCF0296, Thomas Devore DSCF0297, Benjamin Devor 0298, Margaret Devor 0299 (these were all in the first album, I didn't see any in the second album, but look through them any way. I sent an e-mail to a friend who use to attend this church, for address of the church and a contact of someone who could be of more help. I will let you know when I do. I also looked through my George Hoover Cemetery pictures (also On-line) but didn't find anyone there either. Another possible cemetery is called the old Brick, I haven't been there yet, also New Pittsburg Cemetery is in that area. You check out more ! at http://rootsweb.com/~inrandol/Cemeteries/index.htm Andrea *Also, I noticed that in the 1860 census that Thomas and Nancy Devore are only 3 households away from David and Elizabeth. Where they Elizabeth's parents? Children listed with David and Elizabeth are May (or Mary) age 2, and not named 8 month old girl. and on the next page of that census I see many of the Devor names I mentioned about in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. 3. We now have a date of Mar 31, time has not been set as we are going wait and see the weather forecast a few days prior. It was also brought to my attention that I should be more clear about the "Pressure Sprayer", it is kind that you use in the garden, to water a plant or to spray chems on your garden, house or trees (and not the kind that you would use to power off the paint with). Mine has not been used for that, just with the distilled water in it. The only purpose for it is to have water at the site to wet the stone for a pictures as some stones are easier to read when wet. -----Original Message----- It's that time to start planning on going back to that cemetery. We need to plan a saturday when our escort will be available to take us back. Please contact me with which saturday is best for you plus a rain date. Remember the farmers will be in the fields planting the second week of April, they are already chomping at the bit with todays weather. 75*, maybe those last remaining snowdrifts will be gone by the time I get home from work today. Dates to look at: March 24 March 31 April 7 (Easter Weekend) April 14 We will be going through wet fields, some swampy areas, and woods thick with fallen limbs from the ice storm 2 years ago. There will be no nearby facilities, water or food. Plan ahead and bring needed items. If you have never done something like this, please wear boots or heavy shoes and have an extra pair to change into when we are done and back to the vehicles. Wear jeans to protect you from the thorns from the roses and blackraspberries. Bring your cameras ready to go. The later we go the more beautiful wood flowers we will be able to see as well. The wood floor will be covered with Spring Beauties by April. Wear Gloves, leather ones if you have them. Bring with you a small nylon hand broom or paint brush. I will bring a pressure sprayer with distilled water in it. No chaulk, no foams, we will only use dirt if needed to highlight the lettering. We can all go together afterwards and warm up and I will bring my laptop and down load everyone's pictures of that day and burn CDs and everyone will get copy that very day. Different cameras and different angles can really help us to better document this cemetery in its present condition. I also plan to give a copy of our pictures to the cememtery commission, Gina, and the museum. I will also be inviting Jesse Monroe to go with us. He went back there in the 1980s and did some restoration then himself and his sons from what I understand. He took pictures and laid a grid for location purposes. Jesse has ancestors in this cemetery and I am sure he will want to go as well. Time to go play outside. Andrea
