It is the Wright Bridge, and the frame is to be of the unburnt part of the bridge. I was told that this bridge was on the way from Windsor to Farmland, my father-in-law told me this, and that he was on his way to work in the morning it was burning, and it was on the Farmland Angle Road or Angling Road. If you look at mapping software or on google earth, you can see this road ending at 900W and in that area you can also see where it would angle well into Windsor Road. The bridge was built in 1883. I don't know many other details of it. Andrea Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hey, they have a creek going through my place and it's across the road, hasn't moved in almost 200 years. Guess it's a good reason to make sure you note things correctly now because mistakes get repeated over and over. Anyway, there is a little burg there in the area, there use to be a store I believe, and a post office maybe, I will have to check. It's called Brinckley, I took pictures a few weeks ago of this community. At 500W and 500N, is Lickskillet. Mull is not to far from there either. 3. Frances, I just came from the library where in the "Randolph County 1818-1990" book published by Turner, compiled by the Randolph County Historical Society, on page 25, the name of the town that was located at the covered bridge on County Rd. 700 W. in Randolph Co. was "Rockingham". According to the librarian, who is in her 80's and a historian, the town flooded a few times and so they did away with it. She does not know if that is when they moved things to Emmetsville or not. But in 1876, there was a school and a store at Emmetsville. The store was owned by R.W. McCracken, dealer in staples and domestic dry goods, groceries, boots, shoes, hats, caps, hardware, Queensware, and notions. This information was in the "Combined Atlas of Randolph Co. In." Reprint by the Randolph Southern Historical Society", Lynn, Indiana 1874 Atlas. Some of the names of the residents of Emmetsville at that time were, J. Cole, Roberts, Life, McCracken, J. Weise, Young, Jenkins, May, Nicholson, Francher, Myers, Roe, Edwards and Jenkins. A rural Post office in Green Twp., Randolph Co, 13 miles N. W. of Winchester court house and 4 miles West of Ridgeville, it's nearest banking and shipping point on C. St. L.&P & G.R. & L Railways. Mail Tri-Weekly. Emanuel Zimmerman, Postmaster. Hope this information helps since it was mainly the name of the town at the Emmetsville bridge that you were looking for and not just Emmetsville itself. I added the rest in case anyone else was interested. 3. I will gladly meet with you once school is out up there and we can explore to our hearts content. It's their job to help you out, it's research period. Next time seek out Claudia Thornburg, the clerk of that office, she does put up with that. Guardianship records should of be indexed in the Civil Court Records that are in that room to the side, top of the shelf. That is if it was offical. One never knows. I recently found a bit for the Bartonia Church History in a file at the museum, I made photo copies of it, can share that easily with e-mail. I haven't gotten much done around Spartanburg yet, but I know there is a file/book at the Winchester Library that I looked through a few years ago. Lynn (Washington Twp.) Library may also have some things, library and museum are open noonish to 5 m-f, has quite a bit of genealogy stuff there as well. Andrea -----Original Message----- I live only about 35 minutes from Winchester, Indiana and if someone could give me some pointers on how to search for records such as these court records, I would be glad to help them find information about their relatives, or I would be glad to volunteer to help some of the hard-working genealogists in Randolph Co. Right now, I'm especially looking for guardianship records for the period between about 1864 and 1880. Does anyone know how I could find these? I have so many ancestors who lived in Randolph Co., Indiana that I could search many different kinds of records! For example, so far I haven't found church or cemetery records online for Greensfork Township or much about the area around Bartonia and Spartansburg, Indiana. If someone could help me to get started, I could transcribe some of this.

    2. Hello, Yesterday I drove to Winchester, Indiana and visited the Randolph Co., Courthouse. I was directed to the clerks' office and there I was able to find the wills. However, there is another room off to the side with court records. I did see index volumes along one wall, but I couldn't figure out how to use them. For example, I looked under the S in a volume dated about 1860 to 1870, but I found one S name to the left, and under it lots of names beginning with other letters. The clerks in the office are busy and don't work with genealogy, so they couldn't answer any questions. I live only about 35 minutes from Winchester, Indiana and if someone could give me some pointers on how to search for records such as these court records, I would be glad to help them find information about their relatives, or I would be glad to volunteer to help some of the hard-working genealogists in Randolph Co. 3. Hello all, I am reading the information about the covered bridge from California and I really value the history and information you have for this county. It is amazing ! It saddens me to realize the bridge no longer exists. I wonder if it would be possible to rebuild it? It seems it would make a great historical/architectural site for the county. It would not have to be rebuilt for actual transportation use, but for historical/tourist value for the county. Is there some type of commission in Randolph County or Indiana in charge of repairing historical sites such as this? 3. I think I may of spotted the area in question 700w runs from IN 28 and once went through to the east side of Farmland and north of Maxsville. Mapping software and hybrid satalite view show the road still running through it, but if you look at just the satalite image, you can see the road, getting narrow as it gets closer to the river, and no bridge going over it, and the road then continues south. I will ask around here locally to see if I can get a name for the bridge. Andrea http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=40.279395,-85.111427&spn=0.007497,0.014484&t=h&z=16&om=1

    3. I'm not sure just what the road number is but the little burg that use to be there was Emmetsville. There was a church on the corner and the cemetery was right by the church. Just about 1/4 mile West of that church was the road that the covered bridge was on and only went South across the river. That road is now a dead end, at the river, as the bridge was never rebuilt after it was set on fire and burned. I think that may be the one you are talking about. I hope this helps. There is a Memorial on Highway 1 just past Highway 28, with maps of the town, cemetery and bridges along with a bit of history. http://www.rootsweb.com/~inrandol/Green/Steubenville/scindex.htm There were three different wooden bridges. The last one was taken down I believe in the 1960's? It was replaced with a steel bridge when the highway was straightened. I am not sure if one of the wooden bridges ever caught on fire.
