Thanks for some info I hadn't found. Do you know the parents of Joel or where he is buried? Census lists him as being born in OH. I have his Civil War record and the earliest I find him is on the 1860 census of Washington, Randolph Co, IN. I am researching this line in conection with Belva H Newman and John Wesley Engle. 1. [INRANDOL] Vandals damage pioneer cemetery
    2. Andrea
    3. Vandals damage pioneer cemetery By RICK YENCER [email protected] ELIZABETHTOWN - Only a cemetery stands where a long forgotten town was settled along the Mississinewa River around 1836. That site, on Delaware County Road 1275-N near Wheeling with more than 500 grave sites, was the victim of vandalism and theft in recent days. "We were just amazed this could happen," said Jack Atkinson, who takes care of the pioneer cemetery with his brother, Joe. Thirteen stones in the old part of the cemetery were damaged or pushed over , and a concrete angel was taken from one of the stones, according to Indiana State Police Trooper Will Hughes, who investigated the incident. One of the damaged stones marked the grave of Elizabeth Wilson, the wife of Joseph Wilson, the founder of the town that bears his wife's name. Elizabeth Wilson died in 1838 and Joseph Wilson donated an acre of his farm for the cemetery where she was buried, according to Helm's History of Delaware County. While the town had faded by the early 1900s, residents of the area - including nearby Grant and Blackford counties - still have grave sites at the cemetery, which averages a handful of burials each year. 3. Thanks Andrea for your helpful hint. I have e-mailed the gentleman and hope to hear from him some time this week. Have a good rest of the week. Still have not found a copy of a marriage record for Temple Calhoun Smith Jr & Martha Ann Scott, it's as if they never existed, therefore their daughter, dads' maternal grandmother never existed, therefore Grandma never was, daddy never was therefore I am not right, right. Catch up with you later. Also unable to find them in 1870 IA census indexes as they were there between 1867 and 1878. Also he is interred in North Platte Lincoln Co NE (Temple) but No obit exists neither does a will or ptobate as there was a fire in the early 1930's that took most of the records there what they have is sketchy at best. So unknown if this is my Temple Smith although they were in Frontier Co NE in 1880. He may have taken ill and died there and his wife then moved after 1890 to WY to live with a daughter in Laramie ALbany Co WY where she died in 1930.

I have pictures of stones before they were restored and after. So you are interested in any Mills, Adams, or Ford buried there? I know that Gina has done some research on this cemetery as well. 2. Andrea rcwifi
    3. I know where the Buster Brown store was, near the ne corner of Main and Franklin Street, Dale Harlan lived upstairs of it and ran the store in the 40s. Webb's is still around but they moved into Stant's Jewelry Store when they sold out. Rod and his wife are still in there. The Engle's Sign is still on the front of the building, last time I looked. Hubby remembers lots of these places, he tells me about them when we drive around sometimes. Davis building is still there, still owned by the Longnecker family. Jo's dress shop closed in the mid 1990s. There is still the hotel, but it's used as apartments now. I think a restaurant is in there, but not sure on that, for many years it was the Courtesy, then Valia's Tacos was there until two years ago. Do any of you remember the old Valia's Tacos? The more current one was ran by her daughter. The Rainbow Room was redone and reopened for a short time. Many of these business are still here, just different names now. Like Reed's hardware, Ross Mold instead of Overmyers. Sadly Gulley's Ford is gone, but Keith and his wife are still around, they host a Kevin Gulley golf tourney every May for a scholarship program in Kevin's name. Zicht's Green house was sold a few years ago, and has now been abandoned, it is a mess. Yeah, Wick's Pie Factory was where the burial slippers were made. I've seen a pair. But Wick's is open for tours, and you can have a slice of pie at the pie shop and even take one home. Any idea which one of these gas stations that Fermin Flores ran? He was from Guam, and helped the Navy when they were there as a very young teen, and then he came here and served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. I met him a few times, and he gave me his WW2 story. But I was not sure of which gas station he ran, he is a quiet and shy talker. I took pictures of downtown Winchester in May or June, but I'm not sure I back them up before the laptop grew legs. I will look for them. 3. You need to contact Tom Hamm, at Earlham College, Lilly Library, Indiana Yearly Meeting Archives. He is the custodian of records. If you do a search on-line for Earlham College, or Earlham School of Religion, then find the link for the Lilly Library, you will find his e-mail there somewhere. Just getting back on-line now. Hope to have a new laptop late this fall so I can have everything on one computer again. Andrea
