I should have mentioned the book I was quoting from: "BLAZING THE WILDERNESS ROAD WITH DANIEL BOONE" By Carl R. Green 128 pages, easy reading. There are a lot of books available, check your library. Along with a good biography of Daniel Boone, you will get a feel for what our ancestors went thru opening this country up. Also, The Wilderness Road they refer to is the one thru the Cumberland Gap - the first road into Kentucky, accessed from Virginia and the Carolina's. The Cumberland Road or National Road did not cut thru the Cumberland Gap, but opened the way West from Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, it was a much easier path to follow and bypassed Kentucky.
