Whole passel of Slavens up from Montgomery Co. KY moved up, with grand ol' patriarch Isaiah leading the mob in 1830. Went straight to Putnam Co. 2nd Migration--Civil War refugees from Missouri--1862-1865 Slavens branch that had settled in MO and were Union,came up and "stayed over" with the Putnam Slavens relations until the war was over. At one point area up around Portland Mills was abundant with Slavens doctors--4 of them Somebody on this list once quoted a county history of some sort about the Scotch Irish that moved into the area- how they generally moved in large family groups, were heavily religious,independent sorts. Anyone remember this?
